    Hello, everyone.
I have decided to create this thread where we can gather basic advice for running a residential town for all new mayors out there. As I've ran a town or two myself , here are my tips:

    • Make sure you've screenshotted your residents saying they agree to the town rules.
    • Get a portal, it will help town traffic and it will attract builders as they can bring their friends over.
    • Make sure you have a logical rule set that protects both you and your town's residents.
    • Build a couple of decorative, big buildings; beautify your town.
    • Make sure to have a main road so everything can remain organized in the plot grid.
    • Whenever you get builders in your town. Explain them the ins and out of the server to increase the likelihood they stay, they may even buy another plot.
    • Treat your residents equally and fairly. Giving them free feature services will definitely attract people to the town.
    • A repair chest service will also be good.
Be lenient about building heights, farms etc. if you intend to make a builder-resident town. They aren't looking for a strict mayor, just for somewhere safe to build their farms, perhaps a skyscraper and make their food and money.

That's all I got for now, feel free to post your advice below!

I play on two computers, so to avoid having to jump between my laptop and desktop for screenies, I simply have a wall next to my town rules. I placed a sign there that says "Place a sign, type your username, and lock that sign if you agree to the rules". In lieu of the screenies, I have residents place a sign under mine and lock it do I don't have to keep track of screenshots. By making them lock the sign, they for sure are aware of the rules (if they placed an unlocked sign, anyone could have put their name there later)

@stoler202 - Perhaps it is the many comments made about how builders are "nothing" on this server - or possibly the remarks you have made regarding how you only play here for you and that you care for nobody else? While this may just be your style of humor - others, especially new players can find these negative comments hurtful.

I see your point and hopefully there will be others that can help you with this issue. Obviously, your residents do not read your posts on the forums or see your chats. :roflmao: I can't imagine how they would know.

Make getting around easy and pain-free. Don't use ladders, use lifts, don't have drops, have stairs, block up holes or cover them up with greenery.

In a town it's the attention to detail and service of a town's members that impress.

I'd like to add the a public farm is nearly essential. Many players don't know what crops work best, or how to set the, up all the time. My entire life as a Builder, I used a public farm, and to this day I believe new players appreciate having one.

A town shop is always good as well. Some builders don't like to go to the market, or may find it difficult to navigate. Also, you can sell many things that all shops may not have, but builders love, including potion items, diamond tools, armor, food, and building blocks.

I hope this added some valuable input!

I only ever had a private farm in my town where i hire people work for 1/3 of the price of wheat. I am paranoidnof people making more money then me so i dont have public farms, instead i would like you or somebody else here to explain why no builder in my town ever played on ecc again, and no i didnt tell them that i hate builders.

Many builders just want a good food source, and a public farm supplies just that.

Because not all builders are rich and they dont all have the 5k to pay someone for farm perms. No builder would like to pay for the food they can get themselves for free at a public farm :p

I comayor a builder town and it is currently dead. The mayor is inactive and only 1 person, besides me, is active in the town. I have recruited builders to the town but they all went inactive. Any tips on how to get the town up & running again? There is plots, a stable, a small farm of every kind, and free cooking pots.

To be honest, it's all about advertising the town. As you are running a builder town, assuming it is for new users, I recommend you wait at spawn to get some of those builders, as they are unfamiliar with ECC. I used to run a building in my town which housed builders, called the New User Building a.k.a. N.U.B. (pun intended). I pretty much gave them food, a basic set of iron tools and I briefed them through the basics of ECC , such as his chat works, what goes where, how to vote, how to sell items, where they can vote, what are the ranks etc. You can't expect the builders to know that gray is trade chat and how to PM you.

tl; dr: Just wait at spawn and ask new users if they want a free place to live, then explain how ECC works.

My tip is do not start adding people to your town until it is 100% complete and ready it is much easier that way, after they go inactive it's just 1 more thing u gotta do when u could be building the town
