You're not 18, so why would you be suggesting this? He didn't say that you have no right to make suggestions, but you aren't supposed to post suggestions when there are things with the same concept from a week ago.

The title of the last thread on this was misleading honestly. It says server, then quickly spiraled into an argument and philosophy discussion. If anyone(mod) would like to move this thread into the older one, that would be wonderful.

Let's stick to this topic, argue less, and really make a honest attempt to promote change on the server.

If we can move this new thread into the old one, that would be great! Thanks for being cool about it everyone, sometimes mistakes and misunderstandings happen. Lets be positive and not attack each other, that doesnt help anyone, or get anything done. It's not worth it to argue on some online forum. :)

Oh and like i said, this can be a donation feature $1-$5 so in this case the server gets extra cash and we get another chat.

I know this is a hated idea by many, but i think a donation feature for it would weed out the fakers.

 

So here is my opinion on why an 18+ channel would not work.
1) Age verification is almost impossible. People lie on the internet all the time.
2) Lets say the only verification required is that your forum profile says 18 or more. What then?
Then we have kids lying about their ages on the forum. Then we have little kids who want to be treated as adults but cannot handle the adult conversation in the channel. Then we have those kids hearing things they probably shouldn't. Then those kids complain to their parents who complain to Andrew.

Now lets assume its a donation feature:
1) Kids can pay people in game money to get a donation feature thus circumventing the system.
2) As we have seen, a lot of kids have their parents donating for them. All their parents probably know is it is a bonus on a video game. I doubt they are going to ask the child if it an appropriate bonus or not.

Essentially what I am saying is this:

This is the internet and we cannot keep children out. The safest thing you can do is use Skype with your buddies or get a private in game town chat channel with a password. Then don't give the password out unless you are sure they are an adult.

Because 14 is too young for inappropriate talk, first of all. Secondly, because we cannot verify anyones age. I don't want an 11 year old wandering into the adult conversation room. They probably don't even fully understand what 'inappropriate' is. They are likely wandering in there to feel like an adult and thats fine, but their parents aren't going to think its fine. Considering their parents are the ones donating, I'd rather not tick off the parents.

 

You can find out their age on the forums and if they are lying about their age "like most people do i am sure" forum ban them?

 

If they are lying about it on the forums, we can't do anything because we can't prove someones age. I really don't think we need this channel to be a server supported channel. If someone wants to make an 18+ channel, they can go make a private passworded channel. That being said, make sure you are careful who you add because if someone decides they aren't comfortable with it, then you might have a complaint on their hands.

You could easily be lying. Its rather simplistic. I could say "Hi, I'm a 13 year old boy from Britian." Anyone who's talked to me knows that is BS but I could easily say that, stay off of TS, and make everyone think that its true. There is no way to prove age. There is no way to prove much of anything on the internet.
