Thread title: Anvil Combination Bug Minecraft Username: Zeek87 Brief Description: I had recently lost my protection IV Armour and so I wanted more. After buying protection III books I got anvil combinations. I gave the person some projectile protection pants, two protection III books, and exp. After they combined the items it was protection IV. However they tossed it, it reverted back to the way it was before, so I lost my books and didn't get protection IV. The same thing happened with my boots as well. (All together I lost about 10 levels of exp 20-30, and 4 protection III books) Instructions: 1. Get projectile protection IV legging and projectile protection IV boots 2. After this add two regular Protection III books to the Armour. 3. Check and see what happens How many times did you recreate this bug?: This, unfortunately, happened to me twice. Result: I didn't receive protection IV Armour after I combined 2 protection III books on the same piece of armour. (It turned back to what it originally was) Expected Result: I expected to get protect IV from the leggings and boots. Evidence: I don't have screen shots but sick24 combined the leggings for me and saw that it didn't stay protection IV. trevalynfar also did a combination for me and after he threw it, it reverted back to what it originally was before the combo.
I can vouch for this, after i did the combo, as i always do, i checked to make sure it was what he wanted, a proj protect4 and protection4 and it was. After i dropped it to him it reverted back to a plain projectile protection 4 without any regular protection enchants.
I am 95% sure you can't have more than 1 type of protection on a piece of armor without being in creative mode, so this would explain why you lost your book, and no other enchantments were added. Just like you can't add Fortune and Silk Touch to a tool without being in creative.
Like lavajok said, this isn't a bug. This is intentional. You can not combine two different types of armor protection enchantments. If you want a Prot 4 from a Prot 3, then you must combine 2 Prot 3's.
That is exactly what we did, i verified myself, it was Projectile Protection 4 and Protection 4 once i threw it, and when he got it, it reverted back.
Any protections other than feather falling, aqua infinity, respiration and thorns cannot be combined with each other. Therefore trying to combine projectile prot with just prot is an invalid combination and thus reverted to the previous state.
Well the anvil used them up as the anvil doesn't follow any rules. But the "system" detected it as an invalid combo once in the inventory. I think... In other words your books are gone.
I have a prot 4 book I don't mind selling to you for a discount price of just 2k, if you would like it.
I don't believe there will be a patch as such because otherwise you would be able to have it in creative mode. The best way to tell is common sense really. Just look up the wiki next time.
Yes, I didn't understand what you wanted done at the time either I thought it rather strange. I always thought that you could only have one set of the enchants. Or has that been modified now and then modified on the server aswell?
If you want to combine 2 items to get a better item with the same enchant type, only combine two pieces of armor together that share the same protection enchantment, and level. Examples: Protection 3 + Protection 3 = Protection 4 Protection 3 + Projectile Protection 4 = Protection 3 Projectile Protection 4 + Protection 3 = Projectile Protection 4 The first example is the proper and only way to successfully combine two items to receive a better one.
My recommendation to mojang, edit the anvil so if u try to do this bug report, it simply wont let you or say "too expensive"
Okay so would I be able to start with a protection IV armour set and add projectile protection IV and fire protection IV?
No, you can only have one type of protection added to the armor, my fault when we did the books, I didn't think to see what books you had tossed me I made the assumption you were either doing a ff and prot or two of the same prot type. I was too concerned with the exp needed.
