The City of Bertigstadt was established in Rising on Monday, July 7th 2014. The city's name is German for Bertig City. The town is 200x200 blocks and is set on the shore of a plains biome with the sea surrounding it on 3 sides. The tip of the peninsula serves as the city's downtown, a region with 9 21x21 square plots in a 3x3 grid, with the center plot being occupied by the city's centerpiece; the Sears Tower in 1/4 scale.
All streets will be named in the city and will have light posts with street signs, this is something I haven't seen in any ECC town, and will make Bertigstadt unique. The city will also have a boardwalk that encircles
    the downtown district's shore line.

The town isn't a gridded flat town. Only its downtown is a uniform, flat grid. The remainder of the city will be built like a suburban area with long linear streets bisected by the occasional crossroad and situated in the hills above downtown. Plots will be broken up by fences. There will be a height limit of 20 blocks on all structures outside of downtown. Basements are permitted, but the top of the stone layer at its lowest point is the deepest you can dig.

There are two high bluffs that are excellent for fancy houses. If these interest you, they'll cost about $2,000 each.

There are a couple Sears Towers in ECC, but none is as accurate as Bertigstadt's. The Sears Tower project was quite an undertaking, costing well over $30,000 ECD to build, and ultimately reaching 131 m into Rising's sky. The tower's 109m body is divided into 26 stories, including its lobby, 27 if counting the basement. The building has a built in floodlighting system that comes on with every sunset, consisting of redstone lamps, daylight sensors, and redstone torches. The lamps surround the building's setbacks where the real tower's dark bands are. The overall effect gives the dark building definition at night, and returns it to the dark building we know during the day.

The building's floors are up for sale, with prices varying based on the location of the floor you choose. Floors range from 17x17 squares in the lower half of the building to 5x11's on its top 5 floors. Nobody but you can access your floor. the center 7x7 block on every floor is walled off and has a door between it and your area. This area is also yours, but consider it more public than what's within your walled space. Don't put valuables there unprotected. Further down the page lists rules of the tower and price ranges.

The building will have a two story shop on the lobby level and the 2nd floor. The store will sell mainly home decorations, food, etc. All prices will be at or below spawn market rates!

These are the rules of the building if you'd like to buy a floor:

    1. Don't grief. Whatever's in place when you moved in is to remain in place, this includes windows, walls, columns, etc. Basically don't modify the physical structure of the building, only move what's yours. No floors will be connected other than by the central ladder. Violation WILL result in eviction.

    2. Try to control torch use. Excessive quantities of torches interfere with the lighting effects on the building. We're also in a no mob spawning area so there's no need for large quantities of light. Floor to ceiling windows should help bring light into your place. Torches in the walled off inner section are ok. I'll let you know if I think your torch use is too high.

    3. Don't try getting on the roof. Roof access is locked, and breaking through the roof will damage the redstone system, which will go as griefing. If you have fly, then feel free to explore.

    4. The top floor of the building is an observation deck so it's not for sale.

    5. The basement is my storage area. Don't put anything of yours down there.

    6. Absolutely no farms of any kind are permitted within the building. Violations will result in removal of the farm by me, and the pieces returned to you. Further offenses will be evicted.

Pretty simple rules, though some may be strict. Now you see why:

Here's the building at night. Thanks to SparklyPotato02 for the aerial images!

So, are you interested? I hope so!!

Here are tentative rates for the floors in the building:

17X17: $1,000-$1,800: 9 available, price depends on floor height
5x5: $350: 24 available, these are in the + shape of the tower. They can be sold as one floor for$1200.
5X11: $2,000: 4 available. These are the top floors of the building, and the most prestigious. I'll work with potential buyers if these prices are out of your range.

Are you a good skyscraper builder? If you are, great! There are still 5 21x21s available. $3,500 for either of 2 shoreside plots with immediate boardwalk access, and $2500 for one of the 3 inland plots. If you'd like to leave a mark on the Bertigstadt skyline, let me know! Your building must be at least 32 blocks high, and floors can't exceed 64 blocks above Y=64 - the height of the 2nd setback on the Sears Tower. The hard ceiling for spires, etc. is 75 blocks. Let me know prior to construction if your building will reach beyond y= 64. Buildings must be quality work; no dirt, cobblestone or large wood structures. Cobblestone and wood are permissible if used as accents. I'll let you know if it's excessive. Mineral blocks, colored clay, and stained glass are preferred. These buildings also may not be farms, and should look realistic. The lowest point of the top of the stone layer serves as the limit to downward builds for basements. Basements may be farms if desired. This town will have a portal in downtown, so make it your absolute best!!!

This town is based on realism, so if it interests you, pm me or reply to this thread!

    See you soon!

New resident here who would love to visit and possibly apply. Which floor and etc might your portal be? Or a way to get there for a non-tp person? You mentioned suburbs, would you have any interest in homes styled after architects like Frank Loyd Wright or some of the super modern homes?

    @Mylinn

I just started my town last Monday and I'm working on getting the portal. As far as getting you to town, we can have someone with tp just tp you to me. Frank Loyd Wright houses would be great! Pm me when you're on the server. Depending on when you're on, I have buddies that love this building and will tp you here. I didn't have suburban plots laid out but I've put a few down since I made the discussion!

    @Monkeyz505,

Thanks on the compliment! When I get a portal you can buy a plot and go back and forth from your current house! (Or buy Multi-home, I did :p haha)

I'm updating the Bertigstadt page. I added a lot since I first started the town in the summer to make the town unique and to give it that "big city" feel, especially in the core. I added a boulevard with street lights and birch trees to serve as the main road, named Main Street in game. All the roads are named amd they have streetlights. All plots in the city have addresses. If someone builds on a plot, the address for their plot needs to be put on the house with ur gamertag on it so we know who our neighbors are. Plot prices are a bit higher than what the signs currently say. I didn't feel like redoing at least 30 signs. Haha. The building behind this plot is Falling Water, a Frank Lloyd Wright home. The structure in Bertigstadt was built by @Mylinn .

I built a small 4 story triplex fashioned like an old 1880s Italianate building. The condos have a nice view of the boulevard and the boardwalk that surrounds the downtown waterfront. Behind that is a parking garage I built for residents to keep their horses secured in. The building is open like a real parking garage, but there are stalls inside. They're foolproof. People without perms can't get to the horses. Town occupants could remove fences, but I trust nobody who has property in a city like Bertigstadt will steal other players' horses.

Here's a view from the rooftop deck of one of the condos.

I built a custom coal fired power plant in a more rural area of the city and added some extra scenery pieces to make it more convincing. There are 2 stacks of coal blocks stacked outside the power plant. We know the rules for griefing. The power plant is themed like a Minecraft Art Deco building. The style is similar to the Empire State Building.

Here's the side of the parking garage in downtown. It's between the Simpson Building on the right and the Sears Tower on the left.

Here's the eastern skyline from out at sea. The Sears Tower has plenty of office space available. The tower on the right also has lots of available space. The Ironwood Tower on the left by @Avaina1918 is also completely vacant. It's an Art Deco themed building and the second tallest in the city. The skyscrapers are on 21x21 blocks for an idea on their sizes.

The boardwalk around downtown. I made several German flags since Bertigstadt means Bertig City in German. The west end of the walk is still a work in progress, but the majority of it is finished.

The south skyline during the day. The tower crane on the right needs to be removed haha, I forgot I left it up.

The middle of town in the suburban area to be developed, preferably by . Marquette Lane and Main Street are the two main crossroads in town.

Here's another view of the Simpson Building and the open land in the suburban area. There is a functional elevated tramway looping downtown and up to Marquette Lane, which is roughly in the middle of the land area. Like the brick condos beside it, the goal of the Simpson Building (the white tower) was to make an early styled skyscraper to give the city some feeling of history and age.

If you're interested in exploring town for purchasing space, Bertigstadt has a portal on the 2nd to last floor from the bottom in the blue ring next to Viviville. Since I'm not on every day, I prefer to have higher ranked individuals as members of the town. I invested over $10k in the lobby of the Sears Tower and I don't want someone to grief it. The town is themed late 19th-early 21st Century. Message me in game or reply to my thread if you want to make Bertigstadt your new home! If you want to contribute to the Bertigstadt skyline, there are four more 21x21s available downtown.

    Thanks for viewing!

Hello everyone! Avaina1918 here, bertigstadt resident and developer of the Ironwood Tower. After much debate I have decided to demolish the existing structure and instead build the Ironwood Complex. The new Ironwood Complex will contain three buildings: the three-story Garrison Building, the five-story Newsom Building, and finally, the fifteen-story Ironwood Tower. Demolition will start immediately.

Hey Avaina, would you want me to help taking down the Ironwood Tower? I can prolly get it down in an hour with some of my tools and leave the materials in a chest for u. I think I'm going to miss that building as much as the dull gray bugged me originally lol. The shape was cool, maybe we can reuse it somewhere. I feel like we created too much of a canyon though with the full plot-width towers. Looking forward to the new buildings!

Bertigstadt residents and followers, I'm seriously considering tearing down the 1/4 scale Sears Tower in downtown and replacing it with a much larger 1/3 scale design and thought I'd get your opinions. The new version would be 175 blocks high and it'd have over 13,000 square blocks worth of space; that's equal to a square 114 blocks on a side. That's essentially a small town claim, but in one building. The existing 1/4 scale version has 5400 square blocks worth of space, which equals a square about 74 blocks on a side. The redesigned building would have floors 16 lower floors each 23 blocks square, vs. 11 17 square block floors in the current building. The smallest floors at the top would be 15x7s, vs 5x11s in the existing one.

The main issue that building this new design is what it'd do to the street grid downtown. Downtown would lose W 1st Street between Main and Willis Streets, and it would lose the segment of Willis Street between 1st and 2nd Streets. 2nd Street would be unaffected by the change. The plot the current tower is on, as well as the one across Willis Street would become a single plot, with the new building sitting where Willis Street is now. The tower would be built in the opposite orientation to how it stands now, with the west side facing east, and it would have the real building's half dome main entrance facing Main Street. Shifting the tower to where Willis Street is would help improve sightlines to and from the Simpson Building and it would help break up having all the downtown buildings directly opposing each other, easing the urban canyon effect we have going on. @Mylinn the elevated train that goes over 1st Street and that train station would have to be moved toward the waterfront. We could probably build your shop with an interior train stop if you wanted. I uploaded a few screenshots from my testing world that show the newer design. [IMG]
The biggest improvements for the tower itself are the dark bands. By increasing the scale, the lower band becomes bigger than the others, which is the case with the real tower. That floor will become storage if the building is built. I would also turn the band material into coal blocks, not wool. I recently changed them on the current building with the help of @Emerald_Starz .
The side facing Main Street. The real building's entrance is black like the tower, but to liven it up and follow the Sears theme I made it blue and put a big quartz S outside it.

This is looking up the side that would face Main Street. The dark bands are much more prominent with this design. The lighting effects from the 1/4 version would probably go away if replaced with this design.

I agree :) Feel free to repurpose the spot I will (eventually) build the furniture store
Will add a sign in fallin water basement to sell something so you can offload the money I sent.
Might I ask for a filled out town app? Will apply for president then for the next city area - I leave it's name, loc and etc to you!
