So, I mined a few stacks of sand in Legacy today and stumbled upon this... Normal sand: SAND - 12:0 Red sand: SAND - 12:1 The sand I found: What. Is. This?! I can't use it for crafting in any way, but cooking works. It is displayed as normal sand, both when placed and in my inventory. Does anybody know what this is caused by? -314-
I know why the crafting doesn't work... My problem is: How is it even possible to get sand with the meta-ID 5?!
No idea...will try /worth tomorrow. And user->user: Need to find out whether anybody else has that. If not...it's expensive. XD
Would be interesting to see if its sells for a price being sand is $0 in value, hopefully its worth something
Perhaps @welikeike22 can shed some light on the situation? I remember Ike selling some 'rare dirt' with meta-ID of 3 (or was it 5?)
Its nothing more than sand that has likely existed in chunks for an extremely long time (legacy). This happens with most base blocks, such as dirt, gravel, and stone. It may have something to do with world-edit, but I don't think so. It tends to go back to normal if you drop it on the ground with normal sand.
Its relatively easy to get if you know where in legacy to go: same with the variants of dirt, stone, and gravel. Some dirt is so old that it has picked up the metadata of the special minecraft dirt that refuses to turn into grass: however, there is only 1 confirmed location in legacy where that exists.
I cleared an old town once that had leaves with a diffferent meta data. The game would not let me sell them. Sent from my LG-VM701 using Tapatalk 2
I have a bunch of oak wood types that are this way as well and have different item images as well for them.
Tried that with one piece of 12:5 and a bit of normal sand...still meta-ID 5. *Looks at post* *Grabs his shovel* *Tries to find it* Thanks for the help, ike!
Might be...question is: Why? Normal sand should have had the meta-ID 0...and it as that today, too. S was it changed by Mojang once and then changed back? Or, as already sugested by ike, worldedit (maybe a bug in WE)?
Don't listen to me, I know nothing about this. But my guess would be that a long time ago, sands MD was 12:5, and it got changed to 12:0. But since those chuncks you were in were never loaded after the update, the blocks in it were still 12:5?
Mhm...my problem with this theory is: Why would the developers add a meta-id to sand with the same properties as normal sand? Since there is no other block occupying 12 (Except red sand), it should have always been 12:0...perhaps it was a bug that changed a few sand blocks to a meta-id that makes them worthless to crafting? Who knows...
