I agree with this... but... the price of RAM and SSDs is going up right now. My significant other works in computer retail (it's why I got a $4500+ PC for $3500-ish), and he sees the cost prices and mark-ups.

I would go with your Intel build personally. Regarding OS I would say go for win 8 now as it is reasonably priced and will save you the upgrade in the future. Try squeezing in a 700W PSU for future upgrades (maybe a second 7870).

I'm most likely going to start with Windows 7 and decide what to do from there. I'm a tech student, so my school gives me free software (including full OS liscenses). Upgrading later isn't a problem, I'll just wait til SP's come out for win8 and upgrade then :p

Do you think I'd benefit more from the Intel setup or the AMD with a small SSD for the OS?

Well, for me I would always go with an Intel build, but that is purely my preference.

I've put together a build with an i5 3570k I'm pretty happy with. I'll still have room to add another graphics card later if I want and I can overclock the processor if I need to. Only downside is no SSD for the OS, but I can always upgrade to that later. Thanks guys! I'll be sure to post a finished product when I get everything!

    Here's a tutorial for you!
If it's your first time having to install the operating system and so you'll also want to check out part 3.
You won't notice a difference between 60FPS and 100FPS as you monitor cannot show it, some can but they are fairly rare and expesive so I really doubt that you have one.

Remove other of the operating systems and if you want it in a different language than English you'll have to get it from where you live. You'll have about 60€ left for the case and the keyboard which should be more than enough, pick what you want as nobody else really knows what you like. Nearly any midATX case will do.

I use a computer and sometimes I plug it into our flatscreen tv and sometimes it lags. A lot. Like when playing TF2.

    Uh, yeah, thats about it.

I.It is better than Windows Vista, and Windows 8 by far UI and performance (Windows 8 has no performance issues)
II. Poeple are upgrading to it rather than Windows 8
III. You are used to the UI in a quick second. All Windoes OSS 95+ other than Windows 8 have the same UI

windows 7 is to windows 8 what windows xp is to windows vista. (Vista kept improving until they released 7)
It'll get better, just give them space to fix things.

Alright guys, I ordered my parts! Should be here by Tuesday and (hopefully) build by Wednesday!

    Part list:
    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JRP6

If you're too lazy to click the link, I went with the i5 3570k and a Radeon 7870 GHZ. I wanted an SSD, but I decided to buy an xbox controller and some games instead ($15 bucks got me left 4 dead 1 and 2, and saints row: the third! why didn't I do this sooner?).

My total cost shipped was just under $900. Its a little more than I'd originally planned, but I'm hoping its worth it. Thanks to everybody for their help, and I'll be sure to post some pictures when I get it done!
