Hm...what was the cause of the crash? Can you post the crash log? Not sure whether the kind of the crash can be connected to it. Was only the rod gone, or your full inv as well? (Including armour etc)

i was using the rod and it kicked me from the server and when i joined back it was gone

No dont remember i had to restart the minecraft though.

it's happened before and it will happen again, I'm sorry to say this but you most likely wont be compensated. I have had this happen twice to me in the past. I hope you can keep your head up :)

With restart, do you mean an invalid session or a full client crash?

Like Add says, compensation is not usually an option but you may have better luck if you put this in the bugs/ errors thread.
I have also lost full inventories 3 times in the past 1 1/2 years and have never been compensated. -
