Suggestion: Disable post counting in Forum Games, Contracts, Staff Requests, Grief Report / Rollback Requests, all of the Applications / Special Features forum sections, and Ban Appeals / Complaints.

note: I know this suggestion (by me, even) was denied by Andrew recently, but I have a new argument/longer argument(s) than last time. As well, when time passes, things can change - maybe it is feasible to do now when it was not before.

Personal Reason: Although I hate the whole idea/concept of popularity and intelligence based on things like post count, rating count, and trophy point count, it does honestly bug me a bit. Why? Because it tends to make newer users believe that someone is intelligent, respectful, thoughtful, helpful, and/or any number of other things [when they may not be] and can sometimes be led to believe false things and get upset. (Yes, I know I am being extreme. Shhh.)

Logical & Real Reason: With Trophies now enabled, posts counting in the above listed sections makes some of the trophies worthless. Why? Because some of the trophies are for post counts, and overall the trophies available are for real achievements obtained from hard work, respectability, time sticking around, etc.

For example, I do not see spamming Forum Games as a respectable way, nor hard work, to get a trophy. However, it can be questioned for sections done by Staff, as they are doing work for the server and the userbase. But on the other hand, Staff also is not available to everyone, so not everyone can easily obtain the post count trophies like they can. (Personally, I am 50/50 on disabling in Staff-handled areas.)

As well, if users are not allowed to do "cheap tricks" or what-have-you to get a ton of ratings "unfairly," I do not see why people can do the same concept with posts and post count [especially when it has the possibility of actually changing new user(s) perspectives of players and/or the server].

I dont see why this would be necessary, if people care so much about the trophies to just spam forum games all day just to have a certain trophy let them, I think it would be funny to waste their time on it. If they post in any of the other sections (Contracts, staff requests, etc) for only the purpose of trophies they will get in trouble for it and I really doubt anybody would do that in the first place. I dont think time should be wasted doing this and not improving the server. Sorry Moofin <3

    +1 - but a slightly different reason.

I look at the "ratings/post count" ratio as an indicator. I can't seem to find the right words, for fear of mis-stating what I mean and offending someone. But basically I think is shows well on someone when they have say 250 posts and 100 ratings. Another person may have 2500 posts and only 30 ratings shows me that the person just posts nonsense.

Obviously this is not a hard fast rule, but I try to keep my "rating/post count" at a certain percentage. I know if if my post count starts getting too high and the ratings aren't following it, then I am not contributing to the community.

I found out, early on, that putting in a million LWC requests, and the staff that handle them, have their post count exagerrated.

I have to run, but I think I got my main point out there.

    +1

At the same time, giving trophies encourages people to be active on the forums. More posts is more content, and if available storage is not a concern, then more content could mean more advertising. There have been a couple times when I went to search for something minecraft related on google, and at the top of the list was an informative post on EcoCityCraft.com/forum.

I do see what you are saying though. People could post "A" "B" "C" "D" on tons of threads to shore up their post number tick. It's sad. But I have this question: Does it directly harm anyone else? If they are caught doing this, perhaps it constitutes spam? Is it punishable? If so, then it's not all that different from community reporting done on the complaints forum section.

Well, first of all, I'm not sure if its possible. That being said, I guess I should state my reason for posting here. I am the #4 highest poster on the forums. One could argue that is from staff work. I would certainly be remiss if I argued that it wasn't partially. I don't believe a +1 is something I could give this entire thread. I agree with removing it from forum games. I honestly believe that a good portion of the posts there have been done to increase post count and that's just silly.

That being said, I don't agree with removing it from the staff sections. This may come off as selfish, but I intend to argue it from a non biased point of view.

Staff is not an accessible rank by everyone at any given point in time and I acknowledge that. Yet, the staff do those things during the time they could be doing other things. I handle dozens of posts/threads/issues a day. I rarely get the opportunity to look at the general threads or much of anything else because of my duties and I'm sure that many other staff have the same issue. We spend so much time working on the things required to run the server that, assuming this is a contest, we'd have no way of winning. As you stated, the forum games are from people doing very little to get their post count up. Whereas the staff are doing the exact opposite.

Now that all being said, I have an idea, mind you I'm not sure it would work. Perhaps we could add another section to the forum's that is a post to rating indicator. So under ratings it would say Ratings to Posts: 23%. For example mine would be 27%. This would show quality to the other players and quality is what really matters, isn't it?

I'd like to add an idea. There is currently no way to see the highest rated player/person. I think it might be useful to add that where the highest posters are listed.

Honestly, I spend more time on this forum using Tapatalk than my computer, so I can't see the post and rating counts most of the time. I do however like Revan's idea of adding a ratio. When I am on the computer and I actually feel the need to look at those numbers I tend to do quick math in my head. The thing to remember though is that people do give troll ratings, and people do try rating whoring. So even with a ratio you'd have to look at that number with a grain of salt. The only way to know the quality of their posts would be to view a great deal of them and decide from there. That, however, is time consuming and most people won't be bothered to do so.

While I don't know why people want a low post/rating ratio, they do often post a lot in the listed categories (maybe not intentionally in staff requests, etc. But people with a busy town can often post quite a bit) to achieve this, so +1 to the WHOLE suggestion.

Also, as a personal note I would like this because I want to keep a good ratio and making posts that don't do anything useful not count as "posts" would be great.
(Sorry if this sounds strung out or weird but it's early and I'm doing my best)

As much as I agree with this concept, it fails to incorporate the fact that ratings did not exist before we switched to Xenforo and as a result, their ratio may be lower. Also, many users are given ratings for posts that not necessarily positive and often are the opposite of that; they may be deemed "creative" by other users.
