So, where to start huh? I believe this dream was a continuation of a dream that i had before, it begins with, what seems to be Michael 'Ragequit" Jones overdubbing myself (Our at least me controlling someone, in first person) as i'm walking around in a desolate, burnt out town (that also has a pyramid, stoopid dream...) I can vaguely remember what he said. "So last time we were here apparently Gavin and I WENT THE WRONG Damn WAY THE WHOLE GODDAMN TIME! So this time we're going to head around the back" During his narration i'm jumping from the ground onto the side of a building that had vines (No idea why, i just am), it then hard cut's to a third person perspective of a man, who shall henceforth be referred to as Luke .
Luke, appearing in the location I was jumping around just prior, was by a burnt out, but barricaded one story house, she's tearing away the wooden 2x4's in an attempt to get inside, he succeeds, and we enter a poorly lit home, house hold items are thrown around the place, the wooden walls are rotten and decaying, the smell of rotten flesh envelops him. as we enter the living room of the house, we see a fireplace lit with something burning inside, Luke reaches in and grabs a photo and slaps it against his leg to put out the fire, we see that the photo is of Luke, and a girl, who seems to be Luke's daughter, gathered around a small garden table, it's the girls birthday, as we see a birthday cake with 5 candles on it. After we look at the photo, the walls of the house fold out (like the net of a cube). We appear to have traveled to another dimension, all around there is nothingness, all that remains in this void world is Luke, and the floor of the house. Red lights, like stars, soon appear in the void. Then we see a giant demonic figure of Luke, who appears mutilated, this version of luke is covered in vomit and is deformed with alcohol bottles and cigarettes twisting with the grotesque limbs of this new Luke. the following plays out much like a boss battle, when over, we see the world return to normal (or rather, how it was before the battle) and Luke puts the photo into a photo album. All the photo's within contain his (apparent) daughter. as we leave the house, we exit through the front door, and we see what will be the games most prominent mechanic. Lukes daughter is in the distance, looking at us remaining completely still, her expression is cold, we maintain eye contact, while slowly backing away, we open the door of a nearby house. when we open it, the daughter warps slightly closer, this time her expression seems slightly distorted. We then jump cut to what seems to be a mental facility, surrounded by long hallways, countless doors, and a bleak decor, we're faced once again with Luke's daughter, who's face, while not demonic, could barely be considered human. her face, although sharing in human characteristics, is somehow "not" human. we continue opening doors in an attempt to escape, but with each door that opens, she edges ever closer, her face distorting furthermore with the closing distance between the two, until there is only one door that remains, still maintaining eye contact with her, now only a meter apart, Luke opens the final door, expected to be taken, instead his daughter disappears. only for it to be revealed that his daughter is now behind him, within the final room.
So, how can I construct a game out of this you ask? Here's the general concept.
Luke, after being divorced (mainly due to his own fault) is left to raise his 7 year old daughter, Lucy. However due to his own negligence, his daughter dies. The world we travel around is within Luke's own mind, as he slowly accepts what he as done, and tries to change himself.
The objective of the game is to collect these pictures, (henceforth refereed to as fragments, because that sounds ways cooler) while facing his own demons, as represented by the boss battles after collecting fragments. However while all this is occurring, we're also being chased by Lucy, who will only, or rather, can only move when a door is opened or closed, why she does this? we don't exactly know, however i hypothesize it symbolizes that Lucy will only chase Luke when he runs away from her(through doors) but will remain still when Luke is looking at her (Accepting her, and what he's done).
Every door that is opened or closed on the map remains that way throughout the entire game, and so players will have to strategize how to run through the map without opening excess doors that will lead Lucy closer to them.
Lucy's proximity based facial expressions represent that, when distanced, Luke cannot see the errors in his way, nor the things he has done. but when faced with Lucy's true presence, he is forced to witness her shear, horrifying self, a self that Luke has created, and one that he will have to accept if he is to ever escape.
