You can count on me for free ereps to people using these tools, they just need to ask and let me know it's the community tools. :) This is a great idea, but (not to be a negative Nancy) there are reasons why no one has done this or still does it. There are also reasons why people charge $5k an hour to rent theirs out. I have seen so many people break a star tool they were renting and get banned because they couldn't pay it back. Heck here you are asking others for help in getting one for others to use. How long do you think it'll take you to get one all on your own? All that contract does is binds them to pay you back if they play.... but I have seen so many people choose to not play here anymore cause they can't pay it back. The contract is pointless if they never log back in or appeal after being banned and you're still left without a tool worth a million. If you charged some money, then you might keep the tool long enough to make enough for a replacement yourself and if the person does pay you back for the broken tool, then suddenly you have two.

It's a nice idea, it really is. I have thought about it a few times myself, but after seeing the problems @maroiogog and @bobman3355 go through and how many people break their tools without replacing them.... I think maybe you should talk to those two and possibly charge some kind of rental fee. Could be less than others charge! Just would be good to have something there to fall back on... if you can even make a million before the tool gets broken. :p Also, I'm pretty sure contracts can't be open ended anymore. Unless something has been changed that I don't know about, you can't just make one contract saying that person can "use the star tools for 2 hours every 2 days and if broken, they have to replace it". So you're looking at making a contract EVERY time someone takes it out and if it's a forum contract (which is best), it could take a few days to approve it and this will only frustrate all parties involved. Keep that in mind.

 

Yea tool breaking is a serious problem. I have had 6 tools broken this summer most likely will have 3-4 paid back max

 

I think the problem is people hogging, the tool breaking, and people not getting long enough

 

I'm an optimist. I still think this is not going to have a happy ending.
Regardless, I'd like to offer my services with free ereps.

This is a great idea, this would let people play around with star tools to see if it will benefit them in the future.

Although, there will be some precautions you will need to take:

You also shouldn't allow players to just grab n' go. Someone is gonna ruin it for everybody and just nick it. Boom, waste of a star tool.
Allow people to make applications to borrow it. Maximum 1 day, then put in a private chest that only you and the borrower can access (Unless donation chests can still be made/or you have the perms for it). This is where the /own comes in: If they don't give it back (also make sure you made a secure contract (one that staff will listen to and has no loopholes)), then staff MAY get the tool back for you, as you have /owned the tool.

(Please let me know if this won't work. I am relatively new to the server so I don't know everything. When I did /own it said that if I provide the proof it's mine (AKA screenie of Mr. ID) then I can get it back. So don't be like "1Plus, won't work NUB NUB NUB NUB LOL GTFO SUCKA!". 1. That will not solve anything and 2. That's just being plain rude. I have stated why I said this. If /own's info is false, then sorry, but don't expect me to know everything. I haven't spent 10K hours on this server.)

Hey, I'd be interested in this. I have been a player for nearly 3.5 years and have over $200 in donations including ereps. My concern is I was banned a few months back for loan "scamming". I fell behind on payments and a complaint was filed. I was given 24hrs to respond, and I was on a camping trip the entire 24 hour period and was banned. I have rented mswords multiple times with no issues. I am hoping you could overlook my one issue that technically violates your requirements. How much would I have to donate to get two hours a day?
