What's your favorite manufacturer of laptop/desktop/tablet? Vote or post below :)
chart from laptopmagazine
Just my opinions on some of these:
Apple:
I must admit, they're pricey, but you're paying for Apple's build quality and OS. It seems like a rip-off as the hardware probably isn't worth the 1500$ or so for a Pro, but they design that thing to be pretty tough and light for a laptop with that inside. (their new "entry level" imac is a ripoff though xD) (no, I'm not an apple fanboy)
Acer:
Never really experienced their computers, but I've heard some positive things about them and I've heard they're pretty good.
Asus:
Heard they have very nice build quality(among the best of all the manufacturers) and they manufacture all of their parts instead of shipping that off to another company and stamping trheir name on it (what most computer brands do)
Lenovo:
Their ideapad and ideacenter lineup seems okay, but I really like their Thinkpad lineup as it's robust and has no bloatware pre-installed.
HP:
Not much to say for HP, From what people have said, they're not bad computers for what you pay for.
Dell (alienware also falls under this category):
I've heard my share of nightmare stories of Dell's customer support and that they put in cheap parts, but I mean it can't be that bad. Dells will probably be a lot better built now that Michael dell made the company private and doesn't have to deal with sharehholders anymore. I've also heard Alienwares are nice, but super expensive xD
Samsung:
Pretty much Apple except with windows sometimes xD Samsung puts some high-end things in their new computers now like super high resolution screens and fast processors.
Microsoft:
They make the surface lineup, so technically, they're a hardware manufacturer. Their build-quality for their surfaces are pretty good and I think windows 8.1 is fine right now (with the exception of MetroUI on non-touch computers) Windows 8 already has haters and once haters start hating... well.. time to do something different xD Excitement for windows threshhold next year with possibility of free update? :)
These are just my opinions, not complete facts :p if you guys have an opinion on how these companies do, feel free to post em :)

In our school, all the PC's are Dell. They are really good and fast for the things we do. Within Computing Science anyway.
But for some off reason in the Maths department we have MacBooks and the teacher use iMacs. The teacher hate the iMacs though, they say they are non-reliable and a waste of money.
But my personal opinion would be to get a custom PC. Some of the PC's nowadays you can buy the parts and build it yourself, and still have a better PC that some on the market. -

But the maths teachers still have their iMacs :p
Also, Don't american schools get their on laptops or whatever? We don't have that in Scotland, we just have a tonne of computing suits, say 3 for each department. -

I built my own PC, I prefer the Intel and nVidia setup. I'm running i5 3570K @3.4 GHz, and GTX 660. I built it 2 years ago and replaced the case on Christmas 2013. I love my Fractal Design Define R4 W/ Window! :D

iMacs are the most reliable computers in the world, makes me angry when people say they're not

I have a 15" Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina, and I love it. Before that I had a 15" Macbook Pro. Both are infinitely better than the 2 Dells that I had before them.
(My personal opinion ofc :p) -

-Dells are getting a LOT better now that the company is private. They'll probably never be where they used to be, but they should be putting out some pretty good machines in the next few years.
-Lenovo is my favorite OEM due to their thinkpad line and innovations that work.
-I believe Apple deserves to be at the top of the list above which was made by laptopmagazine, but I think their rating is a bit bloated just cause they're apple, ya know? The reason why I believe apple deserves to be at the top is that they offer a solid machine that they know has no real issues and runs stable. Macs are supposed to be reliable as there are only a few configurations so the OS can be perfected to work excellent for these machines.
-This may be a bit contradicting xD, but sometimes comparing Apple products to others is comparing apples to oranges (was there a pun there?) Apple is a different platform to chrome OS and windows. So it's really a hard comparison.
-Asus and lenovo I believe should be tied as their machines are comparable most of the time. Asus usually delivers better machines performance-wise though.
-Sony, they had their chance, but they sold off their vaio divison xD
-HP I believe might collapse soon though if they don't get their act together :p
