Ah, this post brings back a loving memory of mine. A memory that I cherish greatly as it allowed me to achieve great wealth in just a few minutes of persistence.
T'was a long time ago when I logged in one glorious morning to find a nice lad sitting at spawn AFK. Never really talked to him before nor did I plan to, but there was something about him that struck me with great interest. It was not his skin, nor was it his name, or anything of his character's nature. It was what my eyed sought for the most during those poor times of my life on ECC. Aye, it was his shiny enchanted diamond armor and enchant diamond sword. Back in the olden days a max set of enchanted armor and sword was upwards of nearly $200,000+! Knowing this lad was AFK, I decided to take matters into my own hands and collect his wealth for myself. So what did I do? I did what any poor user would do if they saw this opportunity presented to them.
Without a second thought, I tp'd back to my home to collect my most useful killing tool that I could find and then made my way back to spawn. When I arrived back, that good ol' rich fellow was still waiting for me there AFK. So, I looked around the spawn to see where I can enact my devious plan and I saw the PvP arena portal! "Hah! This is it!" I thought. So I immediately started pushing this beautiful AFK fellow over to the portal as quickly as I could. Ah, but it couldn't have been that easy right? No, it was not easy. Some white knight of a player just HAD to try and stop me from pushing him into the portal. But alas, his efforts were fruitless for it was back in those days that AFKing at spawn was at your own risk and his pleas went unheard. That did not stop him! He tried to prevent my pushing by standing in the way, but it was too late! I was already closing in on the portal and there was no stopping me now. Eventually the poor white knight of a user gave up and went back home while I continued my push onward toward glory.
As I had made my way through the PvP arena portal and kept pushing the user towards his death, I could think of nothing but joy as I imagined the armor and sword already in my possession. It felt as though victory was before me, but one last obstacle stood in my way: I was not the only other person in the PvP arena. This other user saw me in my quest and wished for the glory as well! Well I will not stand this. I worked to push this AFK user all the way over here as best as I could and I was not about to lose all the loot to some freeloader! I had to devise a plan, and I had to think of something fast. I knew that if I left to get anything or anyone that my wealth was to surely be taken from me by the hands of this nobody... so I made a deal with him. If he helped me push the user in, I'd give him half the shares and we'd be all set. Luckily he agreed, which is the most I could've hoped for in those circumstances. So we pushed the AFK user together into the PvP zone and killed him in an instant! Loot and all for the taking! We even got some bonus diamond ores and a bunch of other ores as well. It was magnificent.
Now, I'd like to say the story ends there, but it got better... oh so much better. With my partner still standing nearby, I thought to myself what I would do from then on. Well, luck was on my side once more it would seem... the poor lad went AFK on his own as well! "What an unlucky fellow..." Without hesitation, I pushed this (now ex) partner of mine into the PvP zone and slaughtered him for the rest of the loot. He came back shortly after, cussing and caps locking me, but it was no use. The loot was mine now and there was nothing he could do. Eventually the other user who originally had all the loot came back as well only to be greeted with an empty inventory and no way to get his items back. He had asked the mods, and even yelled in global, but all anyone responded with was, "AFK at spawn at your own risk..." Oh was he pissed.
To think, this marvelous story wouldn't have been possible if pushing AFK users at spawn was illegal... or if there were ugly blockades stopping me from doing so. Also, if people weren't stupid enough to AFK in spawn that'd ruin it too. That day I became so much richer. 8/8 would push AFK users to their deaths again.
