I'm currently running Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. My FPS is extremely unstable, it jumps from as low as 10 to as high as 100 or more. I had Optifine on 1.2.5, and it was ok, but it seemed to just lower my FPS. My computer specs are quite good, and my FPS should be much higher than its been.

    My specs:

    2.4GHz MacBook Pro (MC374LL/A)
    Enclosure - Precision aluminum unibody
    Processor - 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    L2 cache - 3MB shared
    System bus - 1066MHz
    Memory 8GB (two 4GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Hard drive - 500GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm
    Slot-loading optical drive - 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory5
Video - iSight camera; Mini DisplayPort output port with support for DVI, VGA, dual-link DVI, and HDMI
Display - 13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 1280-by-800 resolution
Expansion - One FireWire 800 port (up to 800 Mbps), two USB 2.0 ports (up to 480 Mbps), SD card slot
Audio - Stereo speakers with subwoofers, omnidirectional microphone, combined headphone/line in
    Networking - 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit) Ethernet
Wireless - AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi (based on IEEE 802.11n specification)2; Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) wireless technology
Hardware accessories - 60W MagSafe Power Adapter, AC wall plug, power cord

From what I've heard, others on an identical computer can get 100-200 FPS. That would be nice, but all I really want is a stable amount between 75-125. That would make me super happy :p

Things I've read about say the following can help:
    Optifine
Changing settings to energy saver (?)
    Only running MC
Dedicating less RAM to MC (?)

    Here's 2 links I've found:
    http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/how ... educe-lag/
    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/343 ... -aug-6/#cl

Buying a gaming computer with *cough cough* Windows is not an option. I might be able to do a minor thing, such as a RAM upgrade (I'm "maxed out" but people say you can do 16GB if you want), but nothing like $1,000 or anythng :p

    PLEASE HELP ME! :D

    Thanks!
    -Andrew

Energy saver- NO. You want it set to max performance.
Dedicate less RAM- Sort of. You want enough but not too much.
    Optifine.
    Fast & Tiny.
    Advanced OpenGL- Fast
    Particals- Minimal
Set your graphics to a high performance preset. (Bad graphics= higher FPS)
I will think of more soon..

Liaten bro. You're using a MAC.

    A MAC.

So don't comlain about terrible framerates. There's an obvious explaination and solution.
Get a gaming pc, you can build a very good one for less than $1000

People on Macs can get high FPS, just I need to do some cleaning and set up my MC settings better :p
I hate every Windows OS except XP, and Linux, well, it's not my favorite. I would like to have a good gaming PC, but there's 2 issues:
-I need a laptop, I don't have room for a desktop, well, I could make room, but I don't wanna clean out my desk
    -I have less than $200, and I'm supposed to be saving for a car/college cause I'm 13

    Sooooooo

Also, I wouldn't ever spend $1,000 to get higher FPS on a computer game, the only time I have major lag is when I'm on Wi-Fi or mobile hotspot, and I'm running my email, doing ECC votes, playing MC, screen recording, plus a bunch of other stuff. It's not that I have major lag, I just wish I could have no lag :D

-Ok, that's what I thought, and that's what I currently have set with energy, so PHEW!!!
-I currently have 1024MB, according to the F3 menu
-When MC 1.4 comes out, I'm going to get Optifine working again, I don't want to do it twice in two weeks :p
-I normally use fast, but I almost have to have distance on something longer than tiny, I'm always building, so it's hard to see with tiny
    -OpenGL is always on fast!
-Particles are normally on minimal if I remember to change it
-My graphics for MC are always on standard definition, never on HD. I tried a 256x256 texture pack, and that was a TERRIBLE IDEA!!!

    Anyway, thanks for helping :D
Lolz about my status thing :p

    Ok, here's the rundown:
    Millennium STUNK
    2000 was fine
XP was the best Microsoft OS
Vista, well, don't even go there, I put up with it for too long :/
Windows 7 is way too LAGGY and slow and can have a mind of its own at times

    That's my opinion :p

Ok, so here's the thing. Your computer has a display refresh rate of 60 hz. This is actually very standard for most computers. Some may have 75, others 120, but yours is 60 (so is mine). This comes into play because this limits how many frames per second your computer can actually render or display. You can think of it kind of like fps for you monitor. Since your monitor has a refresh rate of 60 hz, this means that your display can only render/paint/display 60 frames per second and no more. If your video card is running faster, say 90 fps consistently, this means that 60 fps are being displayed, and 30 fps are being wasted and dropped. Essentially in this scenario, you are causing your video card to do more work for no reason. This will lead to your card overheating, and in the long run, dying or crapping out sooner than necessary.

To fix this, you can enable vsync. This setting forces your video card to match the refresh rate of your monitor. Enabling this will cap your fps at 60. If you had a 75 hz monitor it would be 75 fps, and 120 fps respectively for a 120 hz display.

With NVidia cards, you can enable this feature in the Nvidia control panel. These cards have 2 (I guess 3) settings: on, off, adaptive. I would suggest trying to adaptive. The adaptive setting will enforce vsync when your fps are around 60. This feature will disable vsync automatically when your fps drops significantly below 60 to catch up and enable itself again when necessary. The on setting will force vsync at all times, even if your fps drops to undesirable levels.

If you decide to modify this option, you will also need to modify the minecraft settings. For me personally to get this working correctly, I had to change my settings from "Fast" to "Balanced." The "Power Saver" feature significantly lowered my performance.

Also, do not worry about modifying the "options.txt" file in your minecraft directly. The vsync option here is still in testing and doesn't work optimally.

    Hope this helps....

    Just a late update :p
I turned off the walking-head-bobbing thing and that helped a ton! When I update to 1.4, I'll reinstall Optifine, but for now, I'm at a whopping 106 FPS for my record high-spike. Ya, I'm still spiking, but it's normally from the forties to 100-ish area :p
