So I'm starting registration for my junior year of high school (11th grade for all those who don't know what that means) and I need to know if these AP classes are worth taking! I'm taking a ton of AP classes so I need to know if these classes are too hard, etc. So here is Schedule #1 that I was thinking about: -AP Human Geography (new class, amazing teacher) -AP Language and Composition -AP US History (known as one of the hardest AP Classes in our school, I am REALLY concerned about taking this class) -AP Chemistry (known as a really hard class as well, but I love chem and I think it's super easy) -Pre Calc w/ Trigonometry -Spanish 4 -String Orchestra -Net and Target And this is another possibility - the thing though is that I can take Pre Calc w/ Trig over the summer and I can skip into AP Calc ABC. -AP Human Geography -AP Language and Composition -AP US History -AP Chemistry -AP Calc -Spanish 4 -String Orchestra -Net and Target If you have taken any of these classes, let me know what you think! Gracias and DFTBA <3
Depending on your school system, AP Human Geography/AP US History will be intensive in reading. AP Chemistry will be math intensive. I don't really know how well you can handle it, but I personally wouldn't take over 3 AP classes. I know myself well enough to know that I won't read anything for History class, so I take CP (standard course).
It all varies by school. Some classes are easy at our school like AP HUGE and AP psych, but others are super hard like AP chem and AP physics
I would suggest you take half of the AP classes this year and then the other half your senior year but that's up to you.
AP Lang will make you cry blood but it's totally worth it. I've learned more in that class this year than any of my other classes combined, it is by far one of the best decisions I've made regarding high school classes.
From what I've heard, we will read out APUSH textbook from cover to cover (yaaaay >.>) but I usually read a ton so that's not a problem. I'm fine with the math we do in Chem right now, and tbh math is one of my favourite classes so <3 Thank you everyone for the help!
Considering you want to get into med school, chem would help a lot. (And even if you change your mind, there are so many options and paths you can take with chem.)
My high school is very AP intensive, so I might be of some help :b My senior schedule will likely be - AP Chem (2 periods) -AP Macroeconomics (1 semester) -AP Gov (1 semester) -AP English Lit -AP Calc - TV Production 4 - Pre-IB Latin 2 - Health / Teachers Assistant (1 semester each) I went and italicized the required ones. I've taken AP Hug, AP WH, APUSH, AP Stat, and AP Lang... If you like math, Chem is probably your best bet. If you prefer reading I'd go with AP Hug or AP Lang, and I'd avoid AP USH altogether.
AP really is nothing, if you are up to the challenge, and your school has it, register for IBDP, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The info you need on it is at ibo.org. I really can only give this scale IB Diploma > IB Certificate > AP Diploma > HS Diploma EDIT: You are required to already have grade 11 math going into it.
I never took AP courses, but I have spoken to people who have. It really depends on the school... Most people I know and have spoken to never take more than three or four AP classes per semester (especially if they have a lot of extracurricular stuff, like sports, or a lot of social life outside of school). If you do cut out AP courses and have more "casual" courses, make your AP courses directly link to what you are aiming for in college and your career. :b
Next year, I'm taking... Math: Algebra 2 / Trigonometry Science: Physics Language: Spanish III (Best Spanish Class for my grade.) Social Studies: AP World History English: 10 Honors I don't know the rest of my schedule yet. I will be in 10th grade. (Sophomore)
Oh my god. Good luck with AP World History. I heard it's one of the hardest /collegeboard/ classes you can take. I had a chance to go to an IB school however, I decided it wasn't worth it. It's crazy and I've heard tons of bad things about IB.
It's not as bad as you'd think. I mean you do get a decent amount of homework but it it worth it. I wouldn't say there are "tons of bad things about IB."
I've noticed that the Pre-AP program through Collegeboard is pretty much nothing like the actual AP course. At least for AP Math. Our AP Gov teacher was showing how IB just doesn't work in a real life scenario. I'm not willing to take it. Plus, the IB school I would go to apparently is really good, but people come out of that like..scarred...
When I was in high school (about 6 years ago) I took AP environmental science, AP English literature, and AP physics (these were all my junior year, I graduated a year early). The first two of those were definitely a lot of reading, lots of (1-2 page) papers, plus a research paper at the end of the year. and the physics was very math oriented. I would personally suggest that you take as many as you feel comfortable with, as once you go to college you will have a ton of reading and papers to write with less structure, so the AP classes are good prep. I also took summer classes, and I loved them. Less people, the teachers are less stressed so easier to talk to and better class discussions too, they were just more fun for me, but if you play sports scheduling might be hard. I loved my summer classes though. Again, each school is different. Imo, I would suggest you take all the classes you listed except the US history one. That way you can focus on the subjects you like and still be ready to take it/other AP classes for senior year. Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions or what advice or anything (sorry for wall of text)
