Minecraft Name: deathtoll1 Suggestion: A new staff rank called helper. Reason: First and foremost, many of you will be asking why I have created this suggestion even though there was a previous one more than a year ago. As seen here http://ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/new-helper-staff.35805/#post-164782 . The reason I am posting this is because this rank will be extremely helpful in training new staff members to become future moderators. Quoted from @myminecrafter0101 in the thread above, "This kinda seem redundant, you don't need a rank to help players and moderating should be left to moderators in case it escalates, in which case they could take action." Moderating should be left for moderators but in this case, a Helper is pretty much a moderator but is different in some aspects. Such as, moderators have to moderate chat, help players with their queries, help moderate on the forums and also help attend to ban appeals and complaints. A Helper though is required to be able to moderate chat and help players with their queries, thus allowing them to communicate with players more in-game than on the forums. This may help these new staff members get to know the different types of players we have on ECC and get to deal with each and every situation that occurs. As quoted from pbrassat17 in the thread above, "2. We have enough moderators to help out anyone in need. 3. If you really need help just ask another player." Moderators usually help out people in need, but many do not know some information such as the following which I asked several moderators and even game admins 'Can we use multiple coupon codes in 1 donation purchase?' many have thus not been able to answer that question, most likely because they are not informed about the answer. Helpers will thus be able to be trained so as to be informed with these types of questions and be able to add them to a question 'database' in which all staff will be informed of the questions and thus be able to respond correctly to the asked queries. Asking other players also has it's upsides and downsides, many players do not know the information, but instead of saying 'Im not sure' or 'I don't know' some may give the wrong information in which may lead to dire consequences due to invalid information. The upsides are that some players know of certain information more than staff due to the fact that they have used / done the asked query before. Any Other Information: Helpers are required to be able to answer most of the questions they are asked correctly and efficiently and must be able to handle chat so as to be able to be promoted up to the Moderator rank. That suggestion only states the Trial-Mod rank, it did not state what they have to do, what they have to moderate, and how they have to work for moderator while this thread does.
The current moderating system is fine. It really doesn't take that long to learn the ropes when becoming a new mod, or at least it didn't take me very long to learn the ropes.
The reason many of us dont know the answer for example to the coupon codes is bc coupon codes are rare, and buycraft is a new system for donations, in a year or so, maybe we could have a better answer. There really isnt a new need for ranks in the staff team, and it doesnt make any sense to make ranks that are even lower than moderator/smod/or GA. I am against this personally.
People should help others voluntarily. I did it all the time before I got staff and I didn't need a fancy tag to do so. It doesn't require you to have a tag/powers to simply answer questions that new players ask or even more experienced players. If the question has a confused outcome, then you turn to a moderator to help. There are plenty of them to help you.
-1. There doesn't need to be a new rank. Anyone and everyone can help people, but people refuse to believe this and ask for Staff's help specifically, which is a small sample of people who won't know everything. It's up to the users to find help from users and sources provided. Staff and Staff-like ranks absolutely have no reason to be the only source of help.
The problem is trust. New users look towards the moderators because a big part of their responsibility is to be honest. They may think that anyone not a mod is potentially trying to take advantage of them.
I understand that for new users... But I see older users do this more often than others. And usually they ask questions like, "How much is another town?" or "How much is ___ donation feature?" Anyone can answer these, and often many people will at once - with the correct answer. (tbh, I see a lot of people also asking Staff legit questions just so they can get their name screenshotted...)
Just suggestion for this, what if there was a rank that appears like a name tag? And you don't buy it with money but your elected the tag by staff or players? It singles that person out as a trusted player to buy from? I personally. -1 the idea but this would be more reasonable then a while new rank
voiD_yO is right. If you feel like you want to help, then help. If you feel you want to know the community, then watch chat and interact with people. If you feel you want to moderate, especially after you've pushed yourself to do the afore-mentioned, then great. Don't ask for someone to give you the right to be a great member of the community. Be a great member of the community.
