This may seem like a rant thread but I assure you it will be worth your time.
This is a topic that has been on my mind recently because people have been seemingly more open on the internet, I would like to inform you how easily people can take your information that is just the basic information such as First and Last Name, and State and narrow it down 1 address, City, Street, and even your House Number. There is websites that are even advertised on google that can take this and do this for them. (Get The Address)
What People Can Do With Your Information
Simply with your address people can find your phone number and e-mail address. Online your information is priceless, as accounts could be made for them to get stuff for free, but for you to take the blame as all YOUR information is in their database. Yes, people are desperate enough to go around taking information and selling it for easy money to websites that will sell that to other websites and some people will create accounts on variable areas such as E-Bay, and Amazon and manage to take the blame onto you as your information is in their database and not the person who stole your information.
How You Can Easily Prevent This
Just be more seemingly closed about your information and if you are open then make your profile private if it is possible, and on websites such as Facebook or Twiiter only allow friends to see your information, and don't friend random people who want to be your "friend". If you have an open profile on a website such as this just limit it to your First Name, and State. It is not hard at all to prevent this just keep it in mind at all times. Also only put your information into websites that are trusted, if you do not trust them search around for the creators, etc. for maybe past websites they have made to fish information, almost like a background check.

    Can I add on? xP

"Simply with your address people can find your phone number and e-mail address." I would like to add on this: People can find any of these three things with just one of them. Phone numbers can -very- easily find addresses, for example.

As well, deleting anything you put on the Internet is not gone forever. You always have a digital footprint--so even if you think deleting everything will keep you safe, it will not if anyone is desperate enough for your information. "[...] all YOUR information is in their database."

So, do be safe. Even as an adult, it can be dangerous to share your information. (Even a picture of your face - which is why all the threads with "post your picture!" get deleted, as most of you are under 18.) Anything you do online will always be available online.

I only friend people from online on Facebook if I know them REALLY well and usually for over a year. Also, as you can see by my profile picture, I always blur my face if I ever show it on something public, like a forum etc. I don't even have my picture on Facebook, not as my profile picture anyway, only a couple pictures in my albums. I also have my Facebook page private, no one can see anything on it unless they're my friend.

Really people lately are just like "hey wats ur state?" and then everyone in the entire server is like; "Indiana! Oklahoma!" Etc., etc. I've even seen people on servers give out their TOWN, even zip code, even phone number. I, personally, don't give out where I live, all I say is "West Coast" which only narrows it down so much. Not even on Facebook is my location listed.
The point is, people should be more careful with their information, lots of kids nowadays aren't educated at all on proper internet safety, and just blindly give out their information.
