Just got into that two week Minecraft phase, and I wanted to join the Skyblock server. I am an old AEM Skyblock player from yonks ago.
I'm unable to join the Skyblock server. Is it down at the moment? Any news on what's happening or when it will be back online?

It won’t be for a while AFAIK. Skyblock was still running on 1.12 when it went down (this was back during main server 1.18 or later). The server also has a semi-recent new owner after 15yrs, so I’m sure they are taking care of a lot of pertinent things right now
but I can guarantee you Skyblock was not forgotten about. It is a massive overhaul, so it will take time
