I actually completely agree with this suggestion and feel staff should only be able to change their nicks to recolored versions of their full igns. As a builder and even resident and mayor I had trouble with staff nicks. I will never change my nick during staff tenure to anything but recolored.

Majority of the staff members who have the nickname feature will be too stubborn to go through with this. They will use an excuse like, "I paid for this feature, I should be able to name myself whatever I want whether I'm a staff member or not." But +1 I hope your suggestion goes through.

Yes, and they ask the mods in global. Why can't they ask "Popsicle" instead of "Popsiclezz"?-

If you have a look at the example given, oreo had the nickname "**fish". If you wanted to PM him, what use would the name "fish" be to new users? They don't know how to use /rn and they haven't been on the server long enough to guess who it is. There is absolutely no logical reason why this suggestion should not come into effect.

UnitedStates2 BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️ Gameplay Architect Premium UpgradeIf a new user comes at spawn and tries to preform the command /msg twosixfive, what do you think is going to happen? It will display a 'user not found' message. This visibly makes it more difficult to contact staff - Staff are people who help new users, not avoid them. Newer players won't ask why they can't message them; They'll just get frustrated and leave; That's not what we really want.
Staff are staff. They should be willing to give up some freedoms to a reasonable extent, especially cosmetic ones like this, for the sake of the community as a whole.-

Fish is a bit strange I admit, but even if someone did /pm FuryFu <message>, it would go to you. So that's my point.-

Yeah, maybe if my name was Popsiclezz and I changed my nick to Popsicle that might work. But it's the principle that is the problem here. Staff just should not have a nickname that is any different from their IGN. Even if the nickname would work in some situations, it should be the norm to have it as your IGN.

That's different from my circumstance.
Yeah I guess you are right, maybe there could be exceptions but ultimately I like your argument. Thanks for the debate lol:)-

Thank you so so much for mentioning this! There's nothing worse than being a new user, and being told that if you need help a good thing to do is contact an online staff member.
But what if you do /list, and the staffs names are (like the examples stated above) not their actual ign, how are you supposed to contact them without either knowing them prior or knowing the command /rn?
I even found myself as a builder thinking that the '**' before the nickname was a part of the name (lol), so I would try and pm a staff member in that format and they wouldn't exist.
I like the idea of restricting it to colour and other more font like nicknames, and booting out the ones that stray from the actual ign.
Also, someone mentioned above about number- nicknames being changed to word nicknames ( eg, 314 to threeonefour). This may be how the name is said, but how is a builder (or any other player for the matter) supposed to know to type it as /pm 314?
Anyway, this was not targeted at particular players or anything :)
+1 to this-

-1 implementing this would remove the whole overall purpose of nickname which is to be able to change your name without changing your legit MC account name. I got the feature so I could change my name to whatever I want, not to color my name. There is a command called /rn for a reason... If a builder doesn't know who a nicknamed player is, let them ask a staff member who it is or find out the command and not make the people who paid for the feature get screwed over for their sake. Should I get a staff rank at any point in the unforeseen future I wouldn't want to have my feature compromised. I think instead, if a builder does /list and the staff member isn't vanished, there should be an additional line showing the staff members rank and Nick like so:
ServerAdmin+ (Nicks): **fish is oreo1227-

And as you're not a staff member this suggestion really doesn't affect whether or not you can use your nickname. The suggestion is because builders literally can't PM a staff member as you've said they should because they don't know that staff member's name.

Personally I see nothing wrong with the TwoSixFive nickname, but I do agree that nicknames should be recognisable for staff members. For example things like 'eek', 'ndm' or 'Clarinet' would be fine, I don't believe that we should force staff members to have their nickname always be the exact same as their full name, though.

I think that as long as it can be tabbed then it should be okay. But anything beyond that should be disallowed because it is confusing.

Honestly, I don't see the big deal here. Yeah you cant directly pm but you can ask questions in global and figure nicks out pretty quick. Its not rocket science. If they want staff can set their nicks to their names of course but I don't think it needs to be mandatory.
