Seems so logical to me, I thought it used to be in place? How do you honestly expect a new player to PM (like all of you say to do if someone needs help) you if your nickname is just some other random shit? this is really dumb: NOTE: the only people opposed to this are staff at this point
No thanks, paying 50/100 dollars just to be restricted like this would be very annoying. Users don't need to PM to get help, we see all spawn local chats and obviously we have the serverwide channels. There's also an opportunity to teach newer players about the /rn command.
are you kidding me? "sorry, but I care more about my nickname than new players asking me for help. they'll figure it out on their own! See, I'm greedy, and I spent my money on something and I don't care about the others, I just wanna use it!"
+1 They're staff to be easily accessible at all times If you want to be able to flaunt a nickname, don't be staff. The purpose of staff is to help others whenever they need it - not to be able to flaunt a nickname which harms how identifiable you are. There is no reason for staff to have these random, dumb names.
As you have demonstrated in your screenshot, the ability to use /rn is great. I haven't had any issues with messaging me because when I tell them how to message me, I give my regular name. It would be considered the same issue with vanish. A user vanished means you can't pm them. Out of my 22 months on Staff, I've never had an issue - no players complaining to me that they can't message me due to a nickname. More commonly I'm called "Dunkable" because of my custom tag. The general rule has been that you still need to be identifiable with your nickname, or if you're not identifiable you must be unvanished.
>be me, new builder >do /who >OOH SERVER ADMIN >Try doing /msg Paramoreo >WTF DOESN'T WORK???? >Okay I guess I'm not wanted on ECC >FEELSBADMAN >I guess I am going to quit this MC server I can't contact any of the admins online I mean we now have the ability to change our Minecraft names, if you don't like your name just change it. Staff have to make some sacrifices it's just part of the job, this is a small one that potentially could impact our player count.
that's because they can't message you... look, if you're a builder, you may be at spawn and be helped by a staff member in local. You get your plot and everything, then later, need to PM a staff for help. We can't expect that builder to know /rn that's just stupid. A smart staff member, who didn't do something dumb with their nickname wouldn't think it would be an issue later. So @oreo1227, say you're the only staff/the highest staff online when that builder needs help. How does he contact you? P.S. Paramoreo =/= oreo1227 --- not even close don't try and argue it. One wouldn't type /pm oreo... they'd do /pm para.
They tend to ask in chat, and I respond how to message me as stated in my last post. Anyone who is generally asking me for help tends to ask in another channel, in which I can direct them to message me if it's a private concern.
I don't even do this, I always have my nick as 'eekelmo'. I do care about the new players if you read my post, it's an opportunity to teach about the /rn command, and there are many other ways to get help. I personally find it annoying when staff have a name completely different to their own, but I'm not in favour of banning it.
But why put them through all that? It's illogical. You're on staff. You're adored for helping others. Why is your own greed and stupid nickname more important than your accessibility to helping someone? You'd rather put a builder through "what do I do next" and a state of pure confusion just to save your nickname?
That 'what do I do next?' is an opportunity to teach. You're really exaggerating imo when you say 'in a state of pure confusion' and 'greed'.
So after all the info you give them at spawn, you're gonna say: "oh, by the way, some staff like to be obnoxious and complicate things, to you're gonna have to type /rn to see their real names!" eek, I'm glad you're not like those other idiots. But you see more point here and you said it yourself, it's annoying. Let's correct that. A staff member is here to help, not to hurt. Don't let them willingly hurt.
Usually what I do is explain what nicknames are, and then how to identify a player. Keep in mind that normal players will often have nicks that differ from their real name, so when I teach the playerd about nicks, it's not purely focused on staff.
Again, as stated As for this suggestion as whole I'll be speaking to @Nicit6 and @ClarinetPhoenix about the future of this. Locked
