Do you guys think that there's still enough ore to obtain residency without reed farming? Because I really, really want to get resident before the new map, and I really, really think that reed farming is totally lame. I need 18k, which translates into: 36,000 cobblestone. 18,000 coals. 5,143 redstone dusts. 1,800 iron ingots. 900 gold ingots. Or roughly 277 diamonds. I want to supplement this with some manual labor, and maybe tree farming (because everyone's building towns/apartment buildings, and you need wood for that), to help out. Thoughts?
The fact that we are completely wiping the entire map very soon, this does not appear to be a problem. Besides, mining is not dry, you just probably don't venture into truly enexplored lands before you set up a mine.
