andrew won't make a new rank just because someone got scammed out of 3k. If you were going to do a major deal you should be aware of what screenshots to take.

Andrew has stated multiple times he's fine with the current way staff handle issues like that. It's your responsibility to collect the proper evidence, let's keep it that way.

 

Also use staff as a mediator in large deals
This helps prevent scamming as well as adding a layer of protection

This then puts the burden of collecting evidence/proof on the staff and off of the people in the agreement. If you are making an agreement, the burden should be on you to CYA.

This would use up so much of the staff's time and players would be like "You looked into SoandSo's case, why won't you look into mine?" And "No, you have to look further back b/c I think he said something like 'it is free' like a week ago. Or something like that."

If we relied on certain staff and felt it was their job to get the proof, they wouln't be doing anything else.

As it is now, they will look into extreme circumstances, but it isn't required. I'm fine with that. I just know I have to take my screenshots, sign my contracts, and use my chests/signs like a good ECC player.

 

Please, let's not forget about the poor innocent scammers. What can be done to protect them?
Can we do something to make it easier to get away with it?

If they didn't get a few screenshots than the obviously didn't care enough.

As for the suggestion, -1. A new rank is not needed.

The Staff that do have any type of log access do not even get the access or updated logs right away. By the time anyone can get access, items and money will be long gone. As well, log diving can take a long time in itself.

Any and everyone can get evidence, so your statement that not everyone can is false. With a little thought and effort, anyone can press the screenshot button on their keyboard and find the image on their computer and upload it. We have threads and Wiki pages that help users avoid getting scammed and how to take precaution and get evidence.

EDIT: If you truly, legitimately have an issue with how a complaint was handled, either make a new one, PM the Staff member who handled it, or make a Staff complaint in PM to Andrewkm and/or GAs.

Just to add. I think that most of us don't like scammers. I also think that most of us value the staff and everything they do. We know they are players and know their time is valuable. It is a matter of what is most effective. I just do not think this would be worth the time involved. That is my opinion.

What you are asking for is for ECC to have a special person appointed to research evidence on your behalf. That doesn't seem like something ECC should have to do.

IRL: When you have a dispute, you don't run to law enforcement or to the courts and say "This man did not do the job he promised. Research it and prosecute him. Make him pay me back. ... Evidence? Um.. You find it. I think if you check his advertisement you'll find something. But that is on you. I'm just lodging the complaint, I'm not required to prove anything as well am I?"

The burden of proof is on the party that says they are wronged. It isn't on the justice system to find that evidence. It is their job to look at the PRESENTED evidence and see if it meets the required threshhold.

How you can think that it is the courts (staff) job to search for that same evidence is beyond me. That puts the liability on them and off of you. YOU have liability. YOU have to provide the evidence. Any other way to look at it is just simply (for lack of a better term) unfair.

 

I'm a good investigator, I managed to save 3 tools, but I couldn't save the 1m+ that person scammed out of others.
Investigating is time consuming. I spent a couple of hours spread out over 2 days to find those tools. And in these situations, the evidence was supplied, all I had to do was find out where the tools were.

Seriously, if you're going to trade something valuable, don't blindly trust the other party. Always make sure you take screenshots of everything in the trade.

 

Keep in mind that all the staff here do their job, voluntarily and are still players. What you are trying to create is a 'job' on ECC. I feel that the present ga's especially kuke do a good job with major cases in finding out what happens to items and then the twists and turns that certain players take when trying to evade the team. Having watched the ga's at it on numerous occasions hunting down high value and named items I cannot support your recommendation here.

This task is already performed by the team but not on the small con jobs. A full time player who only investigates would be tied to a job and not doing this out of love of the game, server and community.
