Minecraft Name:
Jetscat
Suggestion:
Disallow previous Perma-Banned users from applying & successfully being recruited to staff.
Reason
This has bothered me, and some fellow users, so I have heard. I understand we all get second chances when it comes to being banned from the server, understandable, especially donators. We take it to the next level by unbanning users that were said to be Perma-Banned if they're donators, and write an exceptional ban appeal directly to andrewkm.
I respect this idea, and I believe it's a fair system. As an Ex. Game Admin, I understood very well that we were heavily looked up to, role-models, if you will. We represented the server. I don't believe those who in the past who broke such a rule to the length that they were perma-banned, should be allowed to reapply for staff. Sure, mistakes happen, but the majority of those perma-banned affected other users EcoCityCraft experience, imagine giving those who were banned the power to be detrimental to the server & it's community's.
Some of you may know why i'm creating this suggestion, and who it could be seen as directed towards - but i'm not trying to call them out, or get them demoted or anything. I'm simply making this now, after recent promotions, as it made me further think about the problems this could cause players on E.C.C.
Sum up: Nobody wants somebody who negatively affected the server as a player, be given the ability to affect the server as a Moderator.
Any Other Information:
If you have a counter-argument, i'd love to hear it, so hopefully myself, and those also upset by allowing this, understand your opinion.

I agree completely why let people who were perma-banned (aka did something very bad to this server) to be staff?

I must agree, I think its insane, we shouldn't trust someone with this kind of power, after they have majorly broken the server rules, they shouldn't be accepted.

+1 I agree as well, because I don't want to look up to someone that has broken server rules and/or has disrespected others.

+1 you dont hire an ex-con to be a cop. even if the ex-con served his time without trouble. to have a ban on your record should prevent you from ever applying for a job with authority. i dont know who this thread was directed towards because i havent been playing all that long/dont keep up with who gets banned, but now that i know that one of the current staff has been banned, i instantly start to question if their judgement will stay true or not.

+1 I agree as a once perma-banned user. I'm not a role model to anyone with my past history.

I didn't realize it until I saw this thread, but I now realize that for the most part staff is based on age of the user.
I agree with this suggestion, anyone with a bad reputation should be nowhere near staff, especially after getting permabanned.-

The process of staff selection is a complicated one:
- First have public applications, which the community can throw comments on.
- We then have a staff vote, where staff are invited to give reasons why they think each person should or should not be staff.
- Finally after all that is done, we have an administrative discussion. If a player has enough staff votes, the top brass talk over the points raised in both the player and staff forums to make a decision.
This is the process followed for virtually all new staff promotions. The staff weigh peoples current behaviour and other information such as complaints threads, and investigating any previous bans.
If someone who has been previously banned or perma-banned is invited for staff, that means that the other areas of their staff application have been so outstanding that it makes up for their previous transgressions.
Historically we have had a good track record with this policy, we have had a number of staff promotions of previously banned players which have worked well for us. One notable example is kukelekuuk who's contributions as a developer and GameAdmin have greatly helped ECC during the past.
If you believe that a player should not be staff for whatever reason, you are invited to comment on the staff application while it is open. -
I don't really belive that being nice to some users and behaving well for a time mean that you regret of what you have done.
I'm not aganist perma-banned users to become part of the staff but I think that some proof of their regretment should be demostrated.
Some users can get to think that thay can do whatever they want and despite that they can be part of the staff. A staff member is a model just remember that.
In spite of this pharagraf I wrote here I belive that this is over normal users it's an administrative descision so it's a staff's problem :3 (Vox populi for the win xD)
Greetings! ^^ -
To be fair, Blowtube does not get staff because of the past, so why should people that actually got perm banned?
An offense bad enough to warrant a perm ban is bad enough in itself, to get staff after that.. What type of message is it sending to the community of ECC?
+1 -
I agree with what your saying above but I think it needs to be clearer as some users were perm-banned, then they were unbanned without an appeal because they changed the rules regarding that farming technique and that technique became legal. One user was banned twice for that same thing and then became an awesome Super Moderator for a LONG time!

As KH already implied, I've served a permaban somewhere in 2012. I ended up being a GameAdmin and a Developer. Permabans don't say much, the severity of the ban and how long ago that permaban was does make a difference, but excluding people who did something stupid to get permabanned should be given a second chance. We've had some permabanned users on staff in the past, those that didn't work out got demoted and those that did were promoted.
I don't see a reason to exclude these people if their current behaviour makes them more than worthy for staff.-
