There are other excellent posts to help Builders (new players) and I list them at the bottom of the post. I wrote this up to include some random tips I've picked up in my first two weeks of play. If you suggest other tips in the comments below I'll edit this to add them to the main post. Thanks!

Random Tips for Builders

- Go through the Tutorial walk-through area when you first spawn. Ten minutes spent reading and learning there will save you alot of time and frustration later.

- "Builder" is your rank. The next rank is "Resident" and obtaining it is your fist long-term goal. It costs $15K and requires filling out this application.

- There is more than one world on ECC. Type /whereami to get information on your current world location.

- Do most of your mining in the "Mining" world because it's the only world where mining earns you experience.

- Mob spawners in the Mining world work as expected. It's legal to set up a mob farm but you have to manually kill the mobs. Fully automatic farms (including crops and mobs) are not allowed in ECC.

- Spawners exist in other worlds besides Mining but they will not actually spawn any mobs. Don't create a mob farm in the Rising world only to discover the spawner doesn't actually work. (Am I the only one who ever did this?) :)

- Protect your stuff using /cprivate. After you type that you'll be prompted to left-click on the object your want to protect. Common objects to protect are chests, doors and furnaces.

- Own your valuable stuff. After a short time you'll start buying or making enchanted tools. If you have a valuable item, put it in your hand then type /own. Then take a screenshot (usually F2). This will mark the object with a GUID and your IGN and record the ID in the screenshot. It helps recover stolen items.

- When you die any items in your inventory that you "own" (see above) will lose that ownership mark. Anybody can grab it and this is not considered stealing.

- Learn how to use the chat system and the proper usage of the different channels. To change to a channel type /ch then the channel name. To chat in the channel, type "t" then type your message and Enter.
Global: /ch g
Trade: /ch tr
Lottery: /ch lottery
Auction: /ch auction
Local: /ch l

- To message one player, type /pm then the player name then the message

- If you are replying to a player with whom you are PM'ing, always type /r as a shortcut to say the next message you type is intended for the PM conversation. Failing to do this will result in potentially private information going out to a channel like the global channel.
** Any clarification to how this works would be helpful, there's probably a better way than always having to type /r with the potential to forget. **

- Use the three Vote links daily to vote for ECC and earn free netherstars. Sell them at shops for $500 or more.

- Read the wiki and forum posts. Many of your questions will be answered.
