    Brief Description:
When flying around in the Nether and looking for Glowstone, at times I randomly get hurt.
Three times now, I have died due to this bug.
Upon one of my deaths, it actually respawned me exactly where I died - so I'm nearly positive this is a bug.

    Instructions:
Unfortunately, this seems like a completely random occurrence.
Perhaps it happens more often while falling, but I've also had it happen while flying upwards.

To recreate this, it needn't take too long -- I usually notice at least getting randomly hurt after about 20 to 30 minutes of flying around. After about an hour (sometimes half an hour) I end up dying for no reason.

How many times did you recreate this?:
This has happened to me around 8 times, again randomly.
Three of those times I have died.

    Result:
Fortunately, one time it actually spawned me exactly where I died, allowing me to pick up my items.
As a result of two other deaths (in which it did not respawn me in my death location) I have lost about 60k in items (glowstone + enchanted pickaxes.)

    Evidence:
Due to the random nature of this event, unless I were to record my screen for awhile, it is quite hard to get any evidence. (If it is absolutely necessary, I will actually do this).
However, I have heard from other players in Global chat that this has been happening to other players as well.

The bug report you linked is about being kicked when falling.
That is unrelated to my issue as I have never been kicked, only hurt or died -- and not only when falling.
Did you link the wrong bug report?

    Edit:
I've now read the entire post.

Perhaps this is what it is. Let me test it myself.
I have never disabled "/fly" for this to happen. I have the fly+ feature.

    Edit 2:
This seems related -- the screen effect he gets when being hurt is exactly what I have experienced.
However, this does not only happen when falling.
I have experienced it happening while flying upwards.

As it happens again, I will pay close attention to see if I can narrow it down to any specific movements or actions that I take that trigger it.

This is strange indeed. I wonder if the anti-cheat system is making you lag bag as it thinks you are fly hacking and this is the reason you are being hurt? Just like if you were to glitch into a block or hit a solid block whilst free-falling?

Also just to clarify, I have not been having any issues at all with flying.

It seems like some type of compatibility glitch between flying and AntiCheat as you said.
I would narrow it down more specifically to the AntiCheat.

When it happens to me, it's as if I get glitched (very temporarily) inside of a block -- just a few frames, like what Squid captured in his post.

The cause of the damage is definitely fall damage, though - not suffocation. I can tell by the sound the game makes when it happens.

    For players experiencing this issue:
I have talked to many players in global chat who are experiencing the same thing.
A clever workaround is to wear feather falling boots, and to keep your hunger up to ensure full health.
This will, at least, prevent death upon this happening.

We have always known anticheat to be a little on the sensitive side. However, just to bring this up, even if you were free falling and hit a block, if you actually have /fly enabled then you shouldn't take any fall damage whatsoever. Is there any difference between having /fly enabled/disabled? Could it possibly be that whilst free falling, the server is thinking your /fly is disabled causing you to take damage?

I have never disabled fly (with the command) - never have had a reason to.
However, if what you mean is double-tapping space, I do that all the time to descend quicker, yes.

I indeed mean to literally disable fly using the command. I would just like to see if having /fly enabled/disabled whilst free falling creates/reduces any issues.

I think the most interesting thing about this bug is:
Perhaps this event could help developers narrow down the issue.
I imagine me respawning at my death location is explicitly coded somewhere in the case of a weird death event - or else it's just an anomaly.

Just a note: This only happened one time (out of three deaths)

I will definitely need to think about possible causes to this. However I need some sleep for now, be sure to let me know if you find anything else :)
