Hello ECC. As you may have read, we are currently undergoing some major changes to LWCs and cleaning up almost 1,000,000 locks.

You can find the original thread here: https://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/cleanup-policy-update-lwc-important.140280/

UPDATED INFORMATION regarding future cleanups -
    www.tinyurl.com/FutureLWCCleanup

    Here's some quick points:
    - Do not steal from any unlocked chests in the next 14 days. Unless you own these chests
    - Do not lock any unlocked chests with an intent to steal from the chests after the 14 days, or for any other malicious activities
    - Don't mess around or try to bypass these rules. You'll be risking a permanent ban and an account wipe.
    - If you previously owned the chest. You may take from it and will not be banned for this, but be certain that it is your lock. You do NOT want to be banned for a mere accident.

    About the cleanup policy (LWC)
    - Locks that have not been accessed for more than 6 months will be wiped. If you have opened the locks, punched them, locked them, etc. In the past 6 months then your locks will remain
    - SUGGESTED That you create a central storage area for your locks. Don't scatter your locks around as they will be very hard to keep track of. If they are in a central storage area you can just punch each lock to prevent it from reaching that 6+ month period.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can we lock inactive players chests that we know then cmodify them to it and not touch them?
    - No, to avoid any risk of getting into trouble it's best that you leave the chests completely unlocked and send a message to the actual owner of the lock. This way they can lock the chest them-self if they wish to do so.

The user is banned, I know they were inactive. Can I take the contents?
    - No. Just leave all contents untouched for at least 14 days. You don't want to risk a perm ban.

This thread will be updated as we gather more information. Staff feel free to update/edit.

1.Say I own a town and that town has chests lying around (now unlocked because of LWC). These chests are in the way of renovating the town. How would I go about legally getting these chests removed within the next 30 days.

    2. There are chests owned by inactive users that I am cmodified to. I use these on a daily basis. Am I still allowed to take from these chests.

    3. I believe this apply to all locks not just chests. So my question. Heads doors ect.
I assume dont mess with locked heads. But doors. and Lifts. Some doors lifts ect. are either publicly locked or cmodify locked to me. These need to remain locked in my town. Can I lock these?

If I am the owner of a town, and I want to clean up the town and resell plots. To do that I need to unlock the LWC's on that plot. So I go ahead and file a LWC removal request. It is unlocked. I take the items from that chest to sell of give away. Am I permabanned now?

If the chest is still locked after these LWC cleanups (So now). Then assuming your LWC is approved, you may take the items. The reason behind this is that the cleanup did not affect the chests because they are still "active" locks.

    Another Question:

If an old chest (6 months+) is unlocked because its old, and its in my town, will I be able to take the items from it?

EDIT: and the user is offline for more than a week

No. If it's been unlocked because of these changes, leave it for 30 days. You don't want to risk a ban.

Question: After the 30 days, do chest contents then become fair game?

Hypothetical situation: Someone takes from a users' chest 30 days after, following the rules. The person then comes back a week later, and asks for their items back. Is the user who took required to give back? Or since it was due to circumstance, does the user who took then keep the items - as the rules say that unlocked chests are fair game?

    so 30 Days,
When is the exact time we are allowed to take stuff from these chests? and what Time Zone are we going by?
Can we report someone for taking something from a chest early?

If a player is breaking rules you can report them, so probably.

The question is relevant to the other question above it, meaning if someone takes it earlier then the time, even by a few minutes, are we able to report them for it.
Or will it just be a grey area which where they will be given the benefit of the doubt.

So by punching your chests and receiving the "... has been locked by ..." you can prevent them from being unlocked? Or would you have to open all of them?

For cpublic locks, do they just have to be accessed or does the owner of the lock specifically have to access them? If the owner hasn't accessed them but someone else does, does ownership of that lock change at all?

After 30 days this period of leaving chests untouched will be over, yes. However, I'd double check with a staff member before sneaking around just to be safe. Hopefully we'll have a news article saying that these restrictions are no longer in place.

I'm not 100% on your 2nd question, however I'm going to assume that you won't be required to give the items back seeing as this user was likely inactive and stealing is fair game (AFTER this 30 day period). The only exception is /owned tools which may be reclaimed by the original owner.

Not sure on this, I'd wait 30 days from now then ask a GA+ or SA+. Yes you can report people for stealing early and it will be investigated asap.

I'd assume so, if they take the contents out at 29 days, 23 hours and 55 minutes, that's breaking the 30 day period rule. Unfortunately that'll be difficult to enforce as we haven't established the actual expiry time, hopefully (as said above) we will release a news article with the ending time in the future.

Correct, simply punch them all and it'll refresh the locks. If no message comes up, you'll have to re-lock.

I believe if anyone punches the locks it will refresh them. The ownership will stay with the original owner, but the lock will remain.

@andrewkm I can't say that another person who owns certain chests are kept locked when punched or opened; I have a whole vault of a friend of mine's who is pretty much inactive that I had perms to all the chests and used every week, and ALL the chest locks were removed in them
