Hey everyone,
There has been a lot of dispute lately regarding spammy names. Let's face it: They're annoying and completely unnecessary. The answer really isn't to outright ban them, but at least give them a chance to change. Here is what I am proposing:
- People with original names that are spammy, may keep them. This is an original name and no intent to specifically troll our community.
- Users who have purposely changed there name to troll the server have 30 days to change them back if this suggestion is implemented.
- Any further spammy name changes are no longer legal.
- This rule may fall under the spam or inappropriate username clause, if not both.
Thank you for taking the time to review this suggestion. If you feel anything should be added, let me know.

The problem isn't the names, it's the people causing a fuss about the names. (which makes more people change their names to spammy ones, because people find it annoying. Trolls, you know)
It's silly.-

Obblebobble Vault of ECC - FounderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️ Premium UpgradeAnd when people enjoy quoting names in global simply because it's a spammy name. People are entitled to their own usernames, but as you said other people make a big deal out of it.
If someone wants to look unprofessional with a spammy username I say let them, it only damages their reputation. Simply enforce the rules about intentionally spamming when quoting names. All the names are is an inconvenience, it just escalates unfortunately.-

Could always just punish people for saying (typing) in chat a name that would fall into the spam category ;) I'm sure everyone with a spam-ish name would just love to have no one ever be able to refer to them, but they might get a little lonely when everyone else decides to not talk to them any more :D
On a serious note, I don't worry about multiple letter names. I just assume that they are wanting to act in a childish manner and are doing so for comedic reasons. I mean, no one over 14 actually WANTS to be considered a bratty 9yo for real, right?-

This is actually already the case. -
Expipiplusone BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Tycoon ⚜️⚜️⚜️ Premium UpgradeNope. The problem is spammy names. It's your double standards what is silly. Consider this.
If your username is "jack" and you post "_____lol_____", it is considered spam.
If your username is "_____lol_____" and you post "jack", it is not considered spam.
In both cases the chat is spammed with exactly the same characters (just in a different order), why the f**k would you allow the latter?
If you have a spammy username, everything you post is automatically spam, just because there's your spammy username embedded within the post.
Therefore, users with a spammy username are worse than occasional spammers, because they spam every-single-time they say anything.-

+1 incredibly reasonable plan to deal offenders. Either spam is okay or spam is not, the policies of ecc clearly clearly indicate that it is not. There is less than zero reason someone needs to change their nickname into huge spammy messes.
Either do this or no more getting worked up about a few extra characters in chat because there is no reason the trolliest players should have the most leeway.-

If we're banning people with "spammy" names, where do we draw the line? What's "spammy"? What's not? Who gets to decide? To ban people there needs to be a firm line, and then people are going to be upset when a name they consider spammy hasn't crossed it.
More importantly, why even open that door when we can just keep it shut? We all know people troll for a reaction, so why give it? If we don't care, either they'll stop because they aren't getting the reaction they want, or they don't, but we don't care anyway. It's a win/win.-

Getting a "potato" rating from someone who couldn't find any argument to reply with :p feels like getting a "winner" rating

Literally the only reason why people make spammy nicknames is because you guys get so easily baited into giving a reaction, enforcing this rule will just make it even worse as there is always a loophole.

If a line cant be drawn on what is or is not a spammy username, in what world would it make sense for any moderator to ever decide anything posted in chat is spam or if its artistic endeavor or if it is just trolling that should be ignored? Moderators seem to have a really almost instant ability to determine it in chat, I have total faith that they can identify what is a long username and what is purely designed to troll.
And Bash's post perfectly draws out a completely fair procedure to handle it without punishing anyone unfairly. -
xX3PICREBELXx JiggaBuilder ⛰️ Ex-EcoMaster ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Premium UpgradeMy name is pretty long and repeats the same letter 4 times, am I going to get banned? :(
-
Expipiplusone BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Tycoon ⚜️⚜️⚜️ Premium UpgradeMaybe we shouldn't ban them. Probably the most fair thing to do is to configure the spam filter to process the whole message, including the username: if someone has a spammy username, they will be warned and risk getting kicked every single time they post anything, problem solved.

This spamming and trolling is lallowed and ignored when other spamming and trolling is not, why?
This spamming should be allowed and other spamming and trolling should not, why?
*edit*
And how are mods able to determine in real time what is or is not spam in chat, but it is totally impossible for them to have sound judgement on what is spam when they carefully consider what usernames are abusing the rule? Especially when a user would have a month to explain some sentimental reason why they actually have to have 14 of the same letter in their username?
None of these questions have half sensible or sensical answers. -
...no? That's not fair at all. You're literally telling people they can't be a member of the community, just because of something arbitrary. Also willing to bet that's not possible, and most certainly isn't feasible.
Because there's no intelligent way to regulate it short of just ignoring it. You can't make something illegal without the threat of a ban behind it, but banning for this is nothing short of dumb. You're banning someone for a month for having an annoying name. Not harming the community, simply an annoying name. What else gets a month tempban? Only the extremely most severe offenses or names that are actually inappropriate. In my opinion at least banning someone for a month because their name has 1 more "T" than someone arbitrarily allows is nothing short of abuse of the ability to ban.-
