I'd like to firstly start out by stating I am posting this here and not on the 'competitions' thread as its a suggestion for a competition that's should be run by staff or @andrewkm and not myself. I am suggesting a monthly competition for in game money or ECC Gift Cards. One of these competitions were hosted at random the other week and had the SG game full in seconds. Not sure how it would work or what the prizes would be. The competition I am mentioning above was for a $50 Gift Card for ECC. If an excellent way to promote and encourage SG on the server. Let me know your opinions below, when I am more established on the server with more money behind me I will be hosting my own for in game money. When this time comes I will create a new thread on the competitions forum page. ~Karnii
I sort of like the idea of an SG competition. However with the current state of SG (pay to win) It wouldn't really be fair or fun at all.
Possibly some adjustments to be made, example of this could be a forced kit free game to all competitions. I'm sure this is something that can be looked into and done by staff. Or maybe even the possibility to spawn everyone with a certain selection of kits regardless if you own them or not. For example spawn all users with ccpp, eapp and bfrpp. This would give all users some weps, armour, gapples and potions. Any feedback on these ideas is always appreciated.
Forgot to mention in a game that spawns users with kits would also not allow users to use any kits. Making it a fair game with everyone using the same kits
Talking from experience, the past 2 SG competitions that were server led were full of issues, arguments and controversies. Some of the issues could be overcome through proper planning and communication with the community as to rules etc, although some of the issues are harder to fix, if at all possible to fix.
Hmm - my thoughts: Plan early - maybe next summer? Set each kit to have a random chance of spawning in users' inventories, and have the kits be the same throughout. No-kit chance stays at 25% Disable the "/kit" command in the tournament arenas for this timeframe to make it fair for all players Runs for 1 week - top 16 after that compete in 4 groups in each arena, and final 4 compete in one singular arena (Arena 2 would fit, though I prefer 1) Allow one arena for normal, non-competition use. This arena will, of course, allow the "/kit" command. For above - maybe add a temporary arena 5 to see what users think?
That's... a worse solution than current SG, honestly. Games will be 100% up to chance in who gets what kit. It would be good if kits were balanced, but they're not, so it's just randomly unbalancing SG in a random person's favor. Not to mention this would require several changes of SG code to modify the kit and leaderboard systems for proper tracking.
Have to agree, I'd much prefer a system that disabled /kit in competitions and gave everyone the same kits right from the spawn. Thus making a fair game and reducing the number of complaints
It's not worse, randomly unbalancing is better than unbalancing to people who pay Imo cause you still have a chance. Would def prefer kit free tho.
I think that sg is dead on ecc because the kit system is totally broken and if you took away kits for this competition or gave everyone kits for the competition it would raise an unholy amount of fussing from the people who've already spent a lot of money to get kits and now can't use them/everyone has them. And on the other hand let kitters use their bought kits and anyone without kits has no chance at winning... Honestly I think that we should just focus on building new minigames and put this sort of competition on them to promote them and ecc in general. Because in my opinion no decent compromise about the kits can ever be negotiated.
I'm not sure how allowing all users to have set kits for a 1 off game will annoy kit users, if it was every game that would be different but for 1 game a month I don't see any issues.
Those are both incredibly reasonable sounding suggestions that I would like to work but I don't see it happening. You see all these people who paid irl money to have these survival game kits bought them at a time when no such "non-kit" pvp thing existed. Changing it now would likely tick many of them off because it is sort of devaluing the money that they spent because now there are survival games where these kits don't work. They bought sg kits, not "some of the time in designated kitter survival game kits", you see? They bought on the promise that these kits would be available to use in all survivor games. If there is a no kit arena that will be the most popular arena and the kitters in their less busy arena will lose out on the profit that was promised them when they bought the kit. Now I think that both those ideas would improve ECC on the whole, but you have to remember that the server can't afford to tick off donators. And all kitters are donators. I think that this is the reason that these very good suggestions have failed to ever take off the many times it has been suggested. I think kits are broken, awful, and that this is all a terrible mess but I don't see taking away from the kitters as a viable solution at this point. And while one game shouldn't be a big deal, this would be the most high stakes game all month so youll bet they'll be ticked it is the one where their money doesn't help them. However, more power to you, I'd be happy if a compromise was reached.
Maybe we could have 4 non-kit arenas for the competition during the week of the competition, and 4 kit arenas with a smaller overall prize? I don't see many kitters getting angry over that.
Yeah, that doesn't sound nearly as objectionable for anyone, at least during this special event. It could even have equal prize. Then all kitters would have equal crack at the kitting arena's prize and all non-kitters would have equal crack at the non kitting arena's prize. Brave non kitting souls could even make a break for the kitting arena's prize and enterprising kitters could forgo their kits in the non-kitting arenas for another chance to win. This second chance to win but without their kits would likely smooth everything over with any grumpy kitters. But I still think any time the developers take on building these other arenas would be better spent on building a new minigame. I don't get why a server like ECC seriously only has meh survival games and super meh parkour. But that's a topic for another thread
My idea was to simply clone the arenas. Though if we needed other arenas we could always bring back the old 5-8
