I think one of the reasons we don't allow builders to use shoutbox is that new people can spam/advertise in there, plus spam bots will likely try and advertise. Perhaps you can apply manually for shoutbox approval if you're not a resident?

 

I'd say the largest reason builders can't access the forums is to block out advertisers, spammers and trolls - By allowing the server's second way of instant chat to be accessed by anyone you're opening the door to people who have just come onto ECC's forums to troll, spam and advertise. It's more of a precaution if anything, as a server as big as ECC's will have plenty of people who do that.

Remember that you're always able to rank up to resident if you feel like you want to chat in the shoutbox - It costs 15k, something that you could easily make when putting time/effort into it.

 

Shoutbox approval would be a waste of time for staff - Why have staff deal with applications like this when the said applicant will get resident tommorow or so? Just have them rank up to resident if they want access, as simple as that.

 

Yeah I can understand that. Possibly for those that A) Don't want to rank up and B) Find it very tough to afford $15,000. Just an idea :)

I mean, those who don't want to rank up will just have to live with the costs of not ranking up. As for the people who find it very tough to afford resident, most of us have ranked up to resident through dedication to ECC and hardwork, so I don't see how it's very hard for them. I think it'd just be a waste of time for GAs - and another addition to their workload.

Allowing them for users with the forum upgrade like you would be the ideal solution.

 

Now that's a more ideal solution than my application idea. I like that.

 

Believe there was already a discussion about the forum upgrades and shoutbox - it was decided that Resident+ would stay just that. That being said, I would like Forum Gold users to be able to talk in shoutbox.

We have that, it costs $15,000 ECD and comes with our Resident rank as an added bonus :p

Resident is a very cheap rank. It takes a few hours at most to earn the rank (I did this recently on an alt account, it took me maybe 4 hours tops to make a max fort pick and enough for the resident rank). If someone has the money and chooses not to buy the rank I don't see why we should simply give them the perks of it - they are knowingly choosing to not have the rank and those benefits. I don't see why anyone who actually wants resident couldn't get it after a few hours.

 

That is a good point. However further down the thread it was suggested that it's a bonus to forum gold, what about that? Anyhow, this isn't my suggestion thread, just hijacked it a little bit :p

 

If you can get forum gold, you can EASILY achieve the 15k required for resident. At the moment I believe what, 2-3 builders have forum gold, maybe 1-2 active. I'm sure if they could afford to get forum gold weather it be via Ecd or personal $, they can get it.
