I'm not entirely sure if this is possible, but I have seen countless suggestions regarding /ci, so thought I would post this to see whether it is possible to code it in a way which would provide some protection.
Minecraft Name: Dewsy92
Suggestion: Be able to 'flag' certain items from not being cleared when doing '/clear' '/ci' etc,
Reason: I have seen countless people accidentally clear their inventories and with them, star tools eff V tools etc. I am not suggesting that /ci is removed completely as I understand why it is necessary for andrew/GAs with things like trade sign removals etc. This is just aiming to provide added protection to regular users like myself who want to avoid clearing expensive tools. Only this morning did a good friend /ci an eff 7 pickaxe which had a lot of sentimental value.
Any Other Information: I'm unsure how /ci works, but I wondered if it is would be possible to code it so that it clears the entire inventory excluding items beginning with/including certain characters in its name. For example, have the exclusion set so an item which has a name beginning with '*' isn't cleared. This would retain the ability of users to name their tools 'Eg. *PickaxeX' and would also provide a new means of making money for players who have bought ExtCommands as they could sell anvil services.
By relating it to the name, the primary uses of /ci would still be functional for higher ranking members of Staff (and even regular players can use /ci if they want to clear their inventory) but players can choose to protect their tools.
If linking /ci to the name of items isn't possible, is there another possible way of 'protecting/flagging' items (or just tools) to be excluded from /ci?

She can always say she got violently sick after losing the tool and donations to her would miraculously cure the illness. :p

Personally, I think the short-cut for /ci should be removed and changed to /clear inventory. This would likely not prevent these incidents from happening, but it would give players that split second longer to remember what they have in their inventory.
This is the reason I won't buy the feature, likely ever. -

I understand why Andrew doesn't wanna remove it but really Andrew, me and many others would've got it by now if that was removed I'm not getting it with risk of that it downgrades the feature plz remove

'but it takes star tools out of the economy' - star tools are already taken out of the economy through other means such as through death, players quitting or throwing into lava by mistake. I myself have lost Eff 7's to death by a zombie and throwing into lava, but both of these risks can be mitigated. I have since bought /back and moved my 'throw' key to the other side of the keyboard where I am unlikely to press it by mistake. If there is something we can do to protect players' hard earned star tools without affecting the primary use of the /ci command then I think we should be doing it.

Why not change /ci from "clear inventory" to "clear item" so that it only clears out a single type of item? If you want to clear your whole inventory it can be "/ci all".

I say remove /ci and /clear, and make it just /clearinventory. This way you wont accidently do /ci or /clear. .-. Less chance of accidently removing your items

As @Iticip and several other stated above, I'm 99% certain the /ci command won't ever be removed as it's totally necessary in certain instances, but I think that the command alias /ci should be completely and forever eliminated (as well as any other aliases that exist with the command), and instead have the only option to clear one's inventory be /clearinventory, so that users might realize in the instance before they press the Enter key what they are actually typing or doing. If this was the case, it might make them cognizant about what they have in their hotbar or inventory, such as a star tool or stack of valuable blocks, based on the extra one or two seconds it takes to type. This would also limit naive builders who become easily annoyed by losing items on their first day from leaving the server (if they were to do the /ci command), as many a time an experienced user has found pleasure in telling people in global to do /ci for "X" prize or reward (something to that effect). I feel this would be of the optimal benefit for everyone on the server, as it still allows users access to the command, but limits the amount of negativity and depression brought about when users enter the /ci command accidentally. Lastly, making the only command alias possible /clearinventory, would clearly spell out the command's intended purpose. Like many others who came before me, I certainly hope this is a viable solution to the problem presently at hand.
