Suggestion: [Allow Protection of Friends' Old Valuables]

I mean, I like this idea, I don't see it being feasible however. How do staff determine whether the applicant is a "friend" of the said player or will we just let anybody who claims to be their friend apply for the chests?

I don't want there to be tons of applications where people can legally loot their "friend's" chests - that would just add a massive workload for GA+s and encourage people to find and claim these chests.

Although I do somewhat like this idea, I don't see how it's exactly feasible, so -1.

 

I've thought about this idea and talked to many staff members a way to brainstorm ideas in how to implement this -- none have been found. Honestly, just don't touch them, check up on them periodically, if something's been moved report it.

 

Maybe instead of the "friend" locking the chest, the "friend" can file a petition exactly as suggested that there is a chest they know about with star tools or other extremely valuable items in it but instead of this friend locking it and therefore being able to access it after the lwc debacle is over, a moderator could lock it. That's a lot of trouble for the mods, but a totally busted economy would be worse.

Or much better and easier a whole new sort of lock could be created just for this situation. A lock accessible by none without lwc removal down the road. This new lock could be placed by any player who finds a chest unlocked as a courtesy even. There wouldn't be too much trolling with this feature as active players already keep theirs locked.

Then should the player come back at some point hopefully they can petition to have the lock removed by showing the chest was on their property, knowing what was in the chest by memoryor by having at least two users testifying that it was their chest.

But something needs to be done before the economy explodes with ill gotten goods of the long gone greats.

Just get the friend to come on and lock their chest and add you too it.

The only realistic way to verify this proposed "friend" system anyway is to have word from the person themself. They may as well come on and lock the chests themselves.

 

I think what he's referring to is people who have not been online (in-game or forums) in a while. People who, from what they last knew, firmly believed that as long as they stored something inside a locked chest in a town, their stuff is completely safe from EVER being lost... who have just had the rules changed on them.

Let's throw an example out here. Person A and Person B play together quite a bit, get to know each other quite well, but not to the point of having non-ECC communication (phone, email, etc.) Person B joins the military and has no internet access, let's say about 5 weeks ago. Person A knows person B will be offline until mid-January. After this LWC rule change, Person B is going to come back in January to all of their chests being empty because "oh, we had to change the rules that have been in effect for 5 years, sorry about your stuff *shrugs* you should have been here to relock it" Person A gets to sit there helplessly while someone loots their friends chest. They can't protect it, they can't hold the stuff inside for their friend, but they can watch it disappear.

**Disclaimer** This is only for chests that were previously locked inside a town, not the Wild. Wild unlocked chests, I believe, should be available to the hordes

Mike and I (and probably quite a few of you) know people from in-game. They may be offline for un-determined amounts of time... that will fall outside of the "we told everyone" time and the "your stuff is gone" time.

Put yourself in these offline people's position. Would YOU want to come back and find all of your stuff gone, just because someone changed the rules since you left? Ask those that left for a time before the "6 months inactive town owners" rule changed how much they enjoyed starting over...

And quite frankly, if you comment on this thread with "-1"... and you've been banned for already looting unlocked chests with the excuse "but I didn't know", your opinion is as good as the dirt on the bottom of my shoes and you should be ashamed of displaying the kind of personal character that falls under the category of "lacking integrity"

Anyway, how exactly does one confirm that it's their "friend"??? And if we just let everyone claim it's their "friend's" chest, wouldn't that just lead to even more massive legal looting? I don't exactly see how this is feasible.

 

Perhaps - Player claims is friends chest. Chest locked by third party /cmodified to friend, player never gets perms.

However, leaving it as is also not real cool.

 

There are two people who haven't played as much that I used to play on the same IP as. That might imply friendship, and thus my altruistic act of trying to save their possessions just in case.

 

I have an idea:
1. Person A opens chest, screenshots it. Anything of value (enchanted items) get additional screenshots individually for identification.
2. Person A posts screenshots in a thread (contracts forum?) for future reference.
3. Person A relocks or takes the items , and stores them for Person B.
4. If Person B returns within 6 months, there is a record of Person A holding their items for them and the items must be returned (or market value for replacement).
5. If Person B does NOT return within 6 months, their items are now legally Person A's. Person A is not liable for Person B's items after that time frame because someone could have claimed Person B's town and LWC'd all of their chests anyway.

Alternatives? Comments? Improvements?

 

Addition:
3a. Person A In-game mails AND forum PMs to Person B telling them that Person A has their stuff from x, y, z coords.

 

People will use this in order to try and take from chests before 14 days.

EX:
It is 8 days before looting is allowed
Bob knows that certain player is permabanned
Bob screenshots and does nessesary things. Takes melon sword
Permabanned user doesn't come back in 6 months
Bob legally takes melon sword 8 days before lootin is allowed

 

Charlie returns after 12 days, writes ban appeal, appeal is approved, sees a PM that Bob that says "I'm holding your Melon Sword so it doesn't get looted"
Charlie arranges a time that him and Bob are both online at the same time, then Bob returns the Sword to Charlie (and anything else that was protected by Bob)

If Bob can't return the sword (broken, lost, etc.), then he owes Charlie the market rate for the sword... immediately. No "I'll have the money for you in 2 weeks", no "I broke it, so I'll get you a new one by January". Return right now or banned (same punishment as loan scamming)

It's not about if someone will twist the intent to "loot early", it's about making sure it doesn't turn into "I had no idea my stuff could be legally taken out of my LOCKED chest and I have no recourse to get it returned!" *rage quit*

 

But people would just abuse it. In any case it doesn't matter because charlies melon sword disappeared from his chest about 11 hours ago.

It will be "interesting" when Charlie returns next week for Christmas vacation and finds out he had his chests looted. I'm assuming that "owned" tools that were looted will be traceable to who took them. I wonder how THAT little discussion will go
