Minecraft Name: Essidi
Suggestion: An additional PVP map with a different playstyle than the current ones.
Reason:
There are two issues that I have with the PVP arenas in ECC:
1- The way you can dash back into the safety zone seems almost a little cheap to me. It doesn't feel like PVP.
2- All the people running around in prot4. Now, I realise that this is very good for PVP to be profitable. A lot of people love this system, so of course, keep it. I'm asking for another map.
Personally, the only thing I take into the PVP areas is a stone or iron sword and some food, so that dying isn't a huge deal, and I usually PVP with people (usually noobs) that are similarly un-decked, while trying not to get 1-hit by people with maxed swords. (Not a huge deal in terms of losses, but a massive nuisance when this happens repetitively.) Going to less populated sides of the arena helps, but about 1/4 - 1/2 of the map becomes a danger zone.
Besides SG, the PVP arena is a very common place for a new player to go. It is not very encouraging for a new player, maybe in iron or leather armour, to be killed in two hits by someone with a max sword. A lot of pvpers do toss the stuff back sometimes (probably because it's so cheap they don't want it) but it's still not very fun.
Any Other Information:
Solution: Make a new arena that keeps you in the PVP zone.
Few ways to do this:
Sign that teleports you directly into a PVP zone.
Two-block-high drop.
A long drop into water.
(Note: There should be a brief time of immunity to prevent spawn-killing.)
The important thing is that it should be one-way. No dashing to safety if the going gets tough.
To leave such an arena, there could either be teleport signs that will simply spawn you back by the PVP portal or similar. They key is: These signs should not allow you to leave the arena if you have hit / been hit within a certain amount of time.
Edit: After some thought, teleport commands (/spawn, /home) will work just as well, and may be easier to set up. These will work as long as they're restricted while the player is actively in combat.
List of reasons I want this:
1- Increase the actual pvp, decrease the stay-by-the-edge-and-wait-for-a-chance-to-strike.
2- Increase the risk of death in that map.
3- Because of the increased risk of death, people will be less inclined to bring in maxed armour / weapons (but still can).
4- Death becomes more expected. Not a huge deal anymore.
5- More fun for people that are more interested in swinging swords than trying to make money selling prot4.
6- Still can be profitable: People that enjoy fighting with maxed armour can certainly do so in this new arena, but at a much higher risk. Since there is no dodging around the safety line, the risk of losing your armour becomes greater. On the other hand, it will be easier to kill a player with the same level of gear as you (because they aren't running into the safezone). Then you can go hide or run until you're allowed to leave the arena. Of course, if you die and have other set of prot4, you could dash back quickly enough to go find them and get your armour back, since they might be at lower health.
This suggestion is mostly me trying to add something fun to the server. I do not think this will be difficult to do, and I don't think it will affect the main arena too much. If anything, it will remove the new players that don't have any loot anyway. If there are any downsides that I am failing to foresee, please discuss.

Edit:
The following plugins "combat-tag" players when they hit / are hit. I do not know if they can be configured to work with the teleport commands. I'm no coder.

I would enjoy our pvp much more if something like this were to be implemented. Unfortunately, not many people seem to care about how neglected the pvp is on this server. They will usually spout off something like, "This is an economy server, so pvp is not important." While pvp certainly isn't the most popular thing on the server, I feel like the neglect towards it is unwarranted and something should be done. I also would like to point out that player arena's don't help because people can use commands.

+1 for the idea of change and for the sign tp in and out of the arena as long as I can have multiple signs and see the sign your warping to so we can prevent spawn camping.
This is completely my opinion but I think a floating island pvp would be fun especially for players like u and me who don't mind losing items lol -

This is a good and really well thought out suggestion but I do have some issues with it.
As well, I don't see the point of adding in another pvp arena when there is already one that literally NOBODY uses. Just pm a friend or someone and ask them to 1v1 you there .
Like I said, this is a good suggestion but because of those two issues, I'm going to have to give this a -1 -
Andrew is already planning on a competition similar to the Spawn Competition, for the remaining PVP maps that we need. I'm guessing (and hoping) he will have fairly open guidelines so that people can build PVP maps with changes like these. :b

Floating islands would definitely be cool...
(updating top post with combatlog plugins.)
In terms of the empty arena, it's empty, and frankly, I don't like it very much. Too much empty space, not many obstacles, etc.
Besides the design, though, the fact that there's nobody there means I can only pvp with friends. It's not the same as going to an arena and seeing who's already there and joining things that are already happening. Even if it were to miraculously become popular, you'd still be stuck with the stick-by-the-safezone tactics.
I thought that was for SG? -

To have a player make an sg map ._. That would take too much time and resources lol it's bigger then the spawn comp. But ... I would probably do it >.>
