Hi all In the current build competition, the prize for finishing as the top ranked plot is only $150,000 ECD. This seems really strange seeing as all previous build competitions have seen the top prize being at least $300,000 ECD or even a star tool in a number of events. Holiday Build Contest December 2015 --- TOP TWO PRIZES = (1st) star tool or $50 coupon or 300k AND (2nd) star tool or $40 coupon or 250k Spooky Build Competition October 2015 --- TOP TWO PRIZES = (1st) 300k AND (2nd) 250k Holiday Build Contest December 2014 --- TOP TWO PRIZES = (1st) star tool, $50 coupon or 300k AND (2nd) star tool, $40 coupon or 250k Halloween Build October 2014 --- TOP TWO PRIZES = (1st) star tool of your choice, $50 coupon, or $300k AND (2nd) star tool of your choice, $40 coupon, or $250k Based off of these past events, I suggest the potential prizes could be boosted to entice more participants. Rate this suggestion or post a reply with your thoughts on the suggestion. Thanks Phanto
This would be a great idea, especially for teams as when you spit up the money it's a very small amount that everyone gets +1
As far as I'm aware, these competitions aren't for the "prize". It's a fun community event. It shouldn't be all about the prizes. Seeing people complain about this stuff kind of makes me upset. Big prizes like these are the reason the economy gets inflated. Honestly I feel the current prizes are how they should be. Smorezs has already mentioned that they still will be doing big prizes, but not every time. This makes it balanced. As the prizes were a bit much honestly. It's a fun building event, if you are just participating in it for the prizes... why bother. I've participated in them in the past just for the fun of it, not expecting to win or anything. It's an awesome event, and we shouldn't keep asking. Smorezs puts a lot of time and work into these, and just complaining and complaining does no one good.
There's over 20 applicants. I don't see any need to increase prizes - we have a sufficient amount of applicants and after all, this event is just for fun. We shouldn't be liberally giving out large amounts of money anyway. When you print out such large amounts of money carelessly, you can expect inflation - Events shouldn't be distorting the balance of the economy. Anyway, isn't $150,000 and a few build tokens a sufficient incentive anyway? I'd personally spend some time building if I can win that much.
Ok firstly, The competitions, are for the prize, that's why the majority of participants do it. Some may not, but most do. I know I enter for the prize. Secondly, how is a suggestion 'complaining' Phantomine clearly thinks this suggestion should be accepted so he is entitled to it. I don't see him going 'Oh m8 events are shite now' He has done this maturely. 'It's a fun building event, if you are just participating in it for the prizes... why bother' I emphasise again. Most people participate for the prize. Tell me, would as many people participate if there was only a 25k prize? And look currently at the number of people entered already and the number from summer/winter 2014 and 2015.
IMO star tools shouldn't even be prizes. The prize should just be ecodollars or a coupon. Nonetheless, +1. The prizes should be around 400k for 1st, 250k for 2nd, 100k for 3rd.
His point is that competitions shouldn't be done /just/ for the prize. Sure, a prize is an integral part of the competition, and a prize is provided. But we're also here to have fun too. I'd also like to see proof that most people participate for the prize - Because as far as I know, many people participate for fun, not the prize. You guys are literally creating an issue out of thin air. There is no issue! We have 20+ people in the competition! That's more than enough people! Why add extra incentives if there's already as many people as you need? You also seem to be completely ignoring the fact that big prizes inflate the economy. You really can't just be printing money at the drop of a hat and expecting a balanced economy. Things don't work like that.
I enter the IRL lottery becuase I know who will get my money will be happy. I do not want or expect to win. I dont want any prizes in any competitions. I fink dat dere shuyd be know prizez froom know onn fanks.
Sorry dad fell over a cat when the cat was in the cat flap on haloween was pure banta! anyway mate its been awhile did u have agood christmass and easter too?
im gonna have to disagree with you there bud, prizes should be an encouragement to join, not the main reason. winning a competition should just give you the satisfaction of winning and the bragging rights, anything else is just a cool extra.
I don't see any reason to... "getting more people to participate" isn't a reason at all, because it's inconsequential. People who want to build, will, and those who won't, don't. If the only reason you have for building is to win a prize, go make a thread in the for sale section and build on contract.
There is still a decent number of participants Anyways Who knows, event tokens might be used to buy star tools in the future Meaning the value of these are yet to be determined
I don't think a star tool should be on the table at all. But the prize should be upped. These are teams after all mostly. But more than bumping the prize I think that the main thing in winning a competition should be recognition. As is the winners get a mention in one thread and an announcement. I think that pictures of the winning entrants should be archived into a separate area of the competition forum so that future generations might admire your sweet af build. That would be nearly as good as making more money. When I won 3rd place I pretty much had to start ripping it down immediately to get my stuff back. That sucked. I didn't even get to show all the people I wanted to show my build.
To be completely honest, I think we have too many build competitions. We had a build competition just last month for Valentines Day, I think they should be more a quarterly or biannually thing. The prizes should be put up a bit more, although we should keep star tools for different events, because not many people are actually good enough at building to win something (although it is fun), events where there is more participation or a more "level playing field". But I do agree the prizes need to be increased a bit more, +1
If anyone deserves huge prizes of star tools and massive cash, it is Smorezs for all of her hard work and dedication of time she spends preparing and managing these contests. I personally like that the prizes are becoming more reasonable. Based on the amount of applications and the interest in this community event, it seems the prizes are not important to many others either. The good news is that no one is "forced" to do this. I am thankful for those that do and personally enjoy looking at the ideas that our community come up with.
