Minecraft Name: SKSoccer Suggestion: To add the plugin: Clear-Chat Reason: There are numerous uses for this plugin. There is clearing an advertisement, deleting inappropriate spam, or simply clear chat for an announcement, it really grabs the attention of the players on the server. Any Other Information: I do understand the cons of this of course, people need their chat history, and it may hurt players in some cases. I'd simply like to have a discussion about whether or not the pros outweigh the cons for this plugin. Link To This Plugin: http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/chat_clear/
This plugin already exists. When you hit T, after chat has been cleared, you won't see any of the last sent messages.
So.. I'm trying to screenshot the Auction channel as I was scammed.. Oh its all gone... what happens there?
So one of the major cons is it will basically confuse a lot of people with their chat disappearing all because of a spammer, or an advertiser. I would highly doubt that anyone who actually plays ECC will listen to an advertiser and go on their server. The staff banning them should be enough, not clearing the whole chat...
No enough people get scammed while chat is there. Also an exploit people could say something to clear chat right after they scammed somebody. They might get warned or kicked for what they said but would get away with scam. -9000
Losing evidence before a player has had the chance to screenshot it due to an impromptu clearance of chat should be avoided at all costs. Bearing in mind that any inappropriate language/advertising will be lost within a few minutes, clearing chat to remove this sort of message will never outweigh the disaster that would be leaving a player without any proof of an agreement. -1
Fair enough, after hearing all of the additional cons that I did not think of, this is fine. Can be locked
In theory, it's always good not to have to deal with unwanted chat. However, I see two problems with this. The way we have things right now, in my opinion, is controlled enough. We want the staff to be able to deal with things on a case by case basis, and not a pre-decided system (although this could be changed in the config). I still think it's best the staff deal with said cases, and ignore them when needed Town chats are something that I like to have freedom in. They should be moderated very minimally, and not by an added party. If password protected chats get out of hand, then the channel owner is the one to decide to change the password, and remove those "sour apples". On the other hand, I personally enjoy being able to talk how I want I my town chats, and I want freedom in those.
