The colour of a forum name is dependant on the group the user is in I believe. This would mean there would be loads of groups for people that change the colour of their name. I think thats how it would need to work anyway.

You can always get Forum Lite to remove the sparkles.

 

Sparkles+color was deemed to be too much work by Jamie. I suspect the same would be true for colors. The change of colors, in my opinion, would be extremely confusing to users, and may lead to confusion over whether a user is a staff member, or if they are a different rank. At least in-game you get the colored tag. -1
