As @pokeball92870, this is a good point. If we're afraid that too big a difference between first and second join might be detrimental, maybe only staff could be notified when someone joins for the first time: this way the new player won't get flooded with plot/job/whatever offers, but will still be personally welcomed by someone (staff).
Or (if it's fast enough to implement) this public alert might be displayed not only for the first time, but for the first 5 (or N) times.

But, unless the plugin already allows such a configuration, some coding with counters and shit would be needed and I don't think our devs have time to spend on this.​

 

Yeah, on that server I was on, the community was very unhealthy, everyone just tried to get the attention of mods.

 

Let's be honest, they won't get flooded, prob like 2-3 people max are gonna ask em to join a town and in my mind that's a fair number- not too many and not too little

 

Let's be more honest, the age demographic is 13+. In fact, a lot of active members are older than that. If this was a server that hosted 7 year olds, then by all means the welcome message should be a thing. Yes we have people on this server who are younger than 10, but I'm willing to bet they are the minority. Most of the active players are older than 10 for sure, but alas, I'm not sure about the math, but I'm willing to bet on it. So why make a childish welcome message on a server that obviously hosts adults? I think we would just get more annoying members, to be honest. Because the annoying players love attention, and the real players are chill.

 

It's not a childish message, it's just something that welcomes you to the server for the first time. You wouldn't see it again after that. I'm an adult and I would be perfectly fine with seeing something like that welcomes me onto the server

 

Yeah, I guess, the reason I'm against it is because it's a trigger to a bad situation I experienced.
