There's no way to tell if someone is joking or not and if someone takes it seriously, as seen in the examples above, it's not good.

 

Anything can cause suicide, including word like the f word. However you can't police the English language

How do you know bob isn't suicidal? How do you know he won't actually kill himself?

You can't effectively moderate chat in the sense that people won't get upset reading it. Someone will always get upset reading chat. Not sure why you feel the need to change a rule that has worked fine for years.

 

The rules haven't worked fine, though. They're too detailed. While the punishments have been too vague. But that's not what this suggestion's about.

The problem is how staff deals with this. The rules are irrelevant, because the rules should only state what isn't allowed. Not what the punishment is.

And I believe telling someone to kill themselves should be an instant ban. Because it's a serious <Mod Edit> offense.

 

And I believe it shouldn't be. And now we are back to where this argument started an hour ago.

On ECC the way staff treat death threats is a joke. They often times get off with a warning, no ban, no fine. Just a warning.

It's crap.
