Maybe I haven't been clear enough in my statements. I am talking about serial scammers. People that have been convicted numerous times for nearly the same offense. Over months at a time with multiple convictions. Not someone who is brand new and doesn't have a firm handle on the rules. There is a huge difference and I see a lot of arguments against this idea conflating the two types of players. That is an unfair logical fallacy.
I think there is a great schism in this discussion, and much like politics, there is not going to be a resolution that will appeal to both sides. All I am asking everyone to do is to examine the other side's points and see if there is any middle ground.
To some degree I agree with Xslare libertarian leans, to some degree I agree with Revan's laissez faire handling of punishments.
Ok, you don't want ostracization. Fine. You don't want incarceration. Fine. Then institute another penalty. The Scamming fine is a perfect exactly. It is a Natural Consequence.
I also want to reiterate that this shouldn't be a "hating on scammers" thread. It should be a discussion of what staff can and maybe should do to alleviate the situation.
I apologize for my "monsters" characterization. I was speaking only in hyperbole.

Well, now that I recognize that we are discussing severe repeat offenders, I must say we already have a system in place for dealing with these issues. It is recent and still being tweaked, but, it will start to be more apparent in the next few months. I cannot discuss what the staff is doing exactly, but, I can say we too are working on this issue.

Thank you Revan and thank you staff for all of your hard work. Even if it isn't immediately apparent to everyone.
I know that you guys and gals have our best interests in mind and I appreciate all the hard work you all do very much. I try my best to not create more work for you guys by staying within the boundaries set up in the rules. I mostly succeed

Intellectualist BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Mayor ⚒️⚒️Awww, bummer. Must we always get a "Government Classified Top Secret Max Level Clearance Only" given to us?
Stuff like that makes me go bananas trying to think what it is. How it works. What it does... -

Can we have a significantly harsh punishment on the second offense? especially after you violate what you said in ban appeal 1. Or, can we possibly add a 3 strike and you're out system? If three valid scam complaints are filed and you are guilty, you will have to make an excellent appeal to andrewkm?
Say, I scammed somebody 100k eco$

I'm sorry I scammed nelsin! :( I won't do it again!
2. YAY! I'm back on server and never getting caught!
3.[Ban appeal]

I'm sorry I scammed so and so. I won't do it again!
Then the cycle repeats.-

This is exactly what I am talking about
It is a never ending cycle of offense, maybe maybe not collecting proper evidence, ban, appeal... wait a week for them to do it again and the the cycle begins anew.
There really needs to be something done about it.
The current punishment scheme is NOT working, and I urge anyone that disagrees to prove me wrong.
Because after a quick few minutes on the forums, I could show dozens of examples where it ISN'T-

Actually, I'd like to hear your definition of "not working".
-
Its working?
I respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree.
The plethora of scams happening everyday to dozens of people with little to no real punishment say otherwise.
3 day temp ban, then they come back and do the same thing over and over again.
that is not working in my book, and not working anyone's book if they look at it critically. -
I think it is working for first time scammers, but over that amount it isn't working enough dork1877 so I agree and disagree on parts of this thread with you.
-
Intellectualist BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Mayor ⚒️⚒️No punishment besides Perma ban can 100% keep the person from scamming again.
And it's a matter of perspective, critically or not. -
Thecreator767 BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️Perma bans/appeals to skylexia/andrewkm are probably going to be the only people who can get them to stop.
-
Intellectualist BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Mayor ⚒️⚒️Perma ban appeal? Sounds like an oxymoron.
But if we Permaban scammers after the first few appeals...it'll never work.
But honestly, this whole thread sounds like a scammer hate thread.
