+1 Ndm's swords need to be bigger, they're too small. I can barely see them.

Forum premium already allows an increased size of signatures and at some point the signatures might become too large for reading threads... then again, I like large signatures. .-.

 

Well, the suggestion is not to make "signatures" bigger, it's to make "images" in signatures bigger. In the original suggestion, you can see kuke has writing on his, and he can make it nearly 8 times larger, then anyone can with a picture.

To be honest I'd prefer it to stay as it is, and limit the writing even more, especually in signatures like kuke's. Reason being that I don't want to have to scroll through images/text which is meaningless to the thread to look at the content. Sorry, -1

 

You're able to disable viewing signatures along with messages via your preferences settings.

Anyway, this suggestion literally hurts nobody and people who dislike signatures don't have to see them, so why not?

 

You can disable viewing signature. This suggestion is for the people that enjoy seeing a piece of artwork under their name, and wish to make it a little bigger. I see no way in which this can cause a negative effect. We also aren't asking for it to be huge, just a slight increase, because compared to the text size, it's very small.

 

In the example images, the text signature isn't much bigger than the (reduced) image. Signatures, last I knew, are based on number of lines (which is why images get cut off, as is seen in @Disconnection's signature).

There's the illusion that the example text signatures are a lot bigger, but they really aren't. They just better adhere to the number of lines signature limitation. And the text, like in Kuke and Infinity's signatures, are giant words only. The graphic signatures used in the examples have smaller text because there are other graphical elements in play that make the rest of the image bigger than the text...

If you want graphic signatures to be their full quality and not reduced, focus on making them wider and shorter - not bubbly (aka tall and wide). Additionally, have the furthest extending elements be right near the edge. Have as little extra space as possible. For example, Ndm's signature has extra blank space around the edges that can be reduced and save a lot of space, meaning the image that you want to see (not the transparency) can be bigger.

I'm not entirely against giving signatures a couple more lines, but if you get creative and get good graphical images it isn't that hard to have a high-quality graphical signature (even with additional text). The designers just have to think in small scale while they make the big scale images.

..also not against a few more lines, because those with absurd amounts of medals can extend posts a lot more than those with nice signatures. If I have to scroll through absurdly-lengthy posts, at least let me see large pretty images, rather than tons of eh medals.

 

The image in your signature stops at 150 pixels, just like Ndm's. So there is an additional signature limitation on image dimensions, or perhaps file size. My guess is dimensions cap at 150 vertically (per image), but there is still the line limitation which allows for more content (your signature has text and another image, and each image is capped at 150 vertical - Ndm only has an image, but could also have text and be a bigger signature).

So if there is a dimensions limit, I wouldn't increase the cap past 200 pixels vertical. The majority of forums and sites I go on cap at 175-185.

As for Ndm's signature and the lightning, it is all about the designer thinking about the platform in which the image will be used. When designing something like signatures, it is best to know as many of the limitations as possible and make the design work well within them. Sadly it seems that signature limitations aren't listed in the Wiki or elsewhere, so I understand why a lot of signatures aren't designed for the forum.

All I can say is that if people want bigger signatures, increase the image dimension cap of 150 vertical to at least 175, but no higher than 200. If people want more overall space (stacking images vertically or text), add a few more text lines.

...and put all signature limitations in some kind of official tutorial or Wiki page. If more people knew signature limitations, I'm sure a lot more people could make a market with graphic signatures.

 

-1 I find it totally adequate. I would like to view the wonderful artworks people choose to have, but I'd really not like to have to scroll through massive ones. I think the current size is just fine. And I think that the text size should be reduced to match. It's an unpopular opinion, I know, but luckily to those who disagree it is the minority, so no worries.
