You don't have to thank me, just be more careful what you say and do.
"Do as I say, and not what I do."
Doesn't usually work out too well.

this is exactly the reason for my post
i feel that what i did in game and in the shoutbox should be considered legal.
its a travesty if it is not.
you are attacking me personally instead of arguing with me critically and i'm not going to involve myself in this discussion anymore. -
Intellectualist BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Mayor ⚒️⚒️If you feel I'm attacking you personally, I'm sorry, but if you can say "I'd never do this." and then 3 minutes later go do it, there's really no point in debating.
It's like the head of a "Stop animal abuse club" abusing animals. -
I'd love to see this idea happen, it'll point out the bad people in the community and make others think twice about scamming

Although this is a good idea, how exactly would the staff enforce this? I mean someone could always just simply lie?
-
See, the problem is that people cannot be bothered to do any kind of research for major actions; or even set up a lazy contract. I hate to be a social Darwinist here; but seriously, don't go throwing money or valuables around without some sort of research done on the player at hand, or better yet some kind of security. Throwing around what will be treated as an insult in chat doesn't actually serve any kind of useful purpose, and will probably not get read anyways.
Its a tiny bit of effort for amazing amounts of comfort and protection. Shouldn't we be rewarding this kind of behavior, instead of having everyone on a backpack-leash? -
The entire model you have outlined is founded on the idea of preemptive ostracism, which it at its core preemptive by nature. One cannot create a moral argument for punishing someone for an action which has not even happened yet. Such an endeavor would be stupidly juvenile. Furthermore, pushing someone away from a community makes the value of that community lesser in their mind, thus encouraging more bad behavior. Instead, we should be forgiving and welcome them back into the community in the hope that their future actions will be better. I abhor ostracism for ostracism's sake. -

Alright, first of all I agree with Jets. Continuing from there though. You want scammers to be more visible. Well I would argue that on the opposite side, regular players simply should do more research. A 2 second search of the complaint forum for a players name tells me everything I need to know about their ECC Criminal History. If players are more proactive before they make deals they won't be scammed nearly as often.

Can't there just be a thread where it lists the scammers on the server like there is with greifers?

You can keep saying "people should jjust be more careful to avoid being scammed", but it accomplishes nothing.
The issue is: how do we help protect people who, for whatever reason, are not protecting themselves? You may believe that they should just suffer and possibly quit the server in frustration, but I would rather try to help protect the ignorant or naive until they are more experienced.
ECC is currently a dream server for someone looking to cause others grief. The age of minecraft griefing is largely over due to things like protctions, rollbacks and block logs. But here, on the biggest economy server, you can still cause others extreme amounts of grief by scamming them out of things that take many hours to acquire. I say it is a dream server for the scammer, because we make it hard to convict them, easy to get unbanned and give someone nearly unlimited "second chances". You canquickly amass a fortune from scamming, because you only have to give back the stuff that you're actually caught for.
I'm not sure how to improve the situation, but dork1877 is at least on the right side.-

I also feel the need to point out that there is no longer a griefer thread.

I still like the idea of this, if a user has only scammed once then they should not be labeled a scammer, but if they do it more than once, they know the rules and they chose to break them again then whats to stop them scamming again, if you were to label them a scammer then everyone would avoid that person which is good.

Also, to add to my last post. I also feel the need to point out that the griefer thread was extremely flawed. I searched every name on it and at least 2 names were NEVER convicted of grief or even given a warning. The griefer thread required 0 evidence to back up the accusations. I could have gone on there and said, "Dork1877 griefed the town of BadWolf. I have removed their perms" and Dork would be added to the thread, despite never having done that.

I agree there was a complete lack of thoroughness or transparency in that thread. It was the quintessential "unofficial" thread.
And I only griefed that one time because my dog knows my password and he was on my account while i was eating dinner.
