But users certainly can't learn when posts are deleted into nothingness.
No consistency. Some moronic totally off topic posts are left and of those some are warned. Some are left and completely not warned.
No consistency at all.

I originally agreed. But then as I read both sides, I realized I agreed less and less.
I think it should be private. If someone is at school or work and needs to reprimanded, it is done privately. It is no one else's business. If it was done publicy, that would be ... well.. just wrong. If you need to be reprimanded, there is no reason to embarrass you infront of everyone by making it public. Can you imagine if yor boss at work reprimanded you in front of everyone at the office? That would be horrible.
I am appalled when I see parents yelling at their kids in public. That is a private matter and doesn't need to be aired like that. In the everyday world, if you do something wrong, you are taken aside and a private conversation is held. Even here, if you have an issue with a staff member, you take it privately to andrewkm. The same respect should go both ways. If I ever do something wrong and need to corrected, I would hope the staff would be polite and rspect me as an individual. They can warn me privately and I don't feel like I am being held to public ridicule.
Obviously this doesn't work/apply in all situations around the world. But for the most part, I think, if given the choice, private reprimands/warnings are the way to go.
Again, to state: If the staff wishes to warn someone about an infraction, they should do so privately. It is no one else's business.-

It is everyone else's business to know. I would start distrusting the staff ability if I didn't know the users were being handled.
For a non-real life analogy, Skylexia. Skylexia said she didn't resign and that all we need to know. I'm fine with that as long as I know the user was dealt with, or for instance, some facts. I don't need to know the full and entire story but all I want to know is if they were dealt with.
I'm not asking for the "ajdk;flja don't say that." I just want a "User warned." so we know the user has been dealt with. And if you are doing something wrong that affects other people's own individual gameplay, (which affects how you treat them as a person) for instance, cussing at someone. Why should they be respected as an individual and the person has no idea that the user has been dealt with?-

I tend to agree with dork on this one. I didn't agree with stuff like scammer tags in-game, but this, this needs to happen.
First of all, ECC and real life are completely different. We keep trying to relate real life to in-game. Not the same thing.
Secondly, in-game, warnings are a lot more specific and noticed. You already air everyone's punishment with that last post in a complaintI don't think it's quite considered "airing to everyone" if there's a little notice on the profile, or, more likely and needed, a little note on the post. The picture of harrys post is a prime example. We should have little notices like that, on the post, so people won't think they can get away with it.
And to be honest, we really should air everyone's punishments. It will be the most embarrassing thing in the world, and you probably will be shamed into not doing it again. Getting your face turning red and hot is a good thing. A little tap on your back in private never does as much as a public announcement. But we should protect scammers in-game, because the community will be too harsh on them.
But a little notice on the post, will ensure public peace of mind and will give the person a bit of embarrassment. Not much, but enough to make em think twice.
And also something to note, forum punishments will never be as bad as in-game stuff. In-game I can scam, i can spam, and i can use cheats and hacks and a huge number of other stuff that will be quite damaging. On the forums, the worst i can do is caps lock you to death.
People won't be as nearly as cruel/harsh to a caps-locker then to a scammer. -

From what I understand, it is an option, however, it is not permanently enabled. That is a staff ability/option, not a guarantee.

Intellectualist BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-Mayor ⚒️⚒️I've only seen it ever used twice.
I can second this. It's a rather awkward position to ask staff to change their methods or do something the way I want them to, but in this case it's needed. -
won't happen reliably/automatically so it wont happen.
idea took as "an attack on publicly identifying rule breakers (oh gods forbid!) and immediately dismissed out of hand
