Minecraft Name: xboyfernz Suggestion: adding in /mute Reason: Instead of a straight ban mute the user its a waste of time the ban appeals and less ban appeals will be filled out Other Information: N/A Link to this plugin/Is this a custom addition?: N/A
Staff team can still temp ban players, which in my opinion is more of a punishment if someone needs to be punished for something such as flaiming, harassment, or something of similar nature; because they can still enjoy the server with a /mute, and they will hopefully learn their lesson quicker in my opinion with a /tempban, which does not waste time, as you can't appeal while a temp ban is in place. So a -1 from me And I believe that he means to add this as a mod command, meaning that a staff member types "/mute <player name> <Length of Time>" and this player is still on the server, but unable to talk in chat.
If we're serious about stopping trolls, we should be open to using mute. A ban is acknowledging you - a mute, is well, telling you to shut up. While it's nothing of reason, a mute sends a much more different message to you, than say a ban would. A mute annoys trolls more, than a ban would. +1 PS: We'd have to use /ch mute instead if we're gonna mute players. The regular /mute command does no good as it's bypassable via /ch qm (channel) (message).
The existing rules are obviously far, far short of handling the trolling situation. When there are offenders who make the same offense often multiple times a day every day for weeks then guess what, your reaction the the offense is totally insufficient. Mute would be perfect for minor chat squabbles because mods could just mute the players fighting and the moment would pass. This is great for times when people are breaking rules but maybe a temp ban is too much but oh yeah saying "<username> please stop" or "you know better" for the billionth time is such a waste of your keyboard because it means absolutely nothing. No bite whatsoever. There were several scuffles and inappropriate moments in global just earlier this very single day which this would have been flippin' great for. +1
1 Warn = nothing 2 Warns = nothing 3 Warns = 30 minute mute 4 Warns = 24 hr mute 5 Warns = 24 hr temp ban Idk that's what I'm thinking.
I agree with this except my thoughts: 1 Warn = nothing 2 Warns = 30 minute mute 3 Warns =4 hr mute 4 Warns = 24 hr mute 5 Warns = 24 hr temp ban
I think absolutely any constellation of warns to time muted will work perfectly and like a dream so long as 1. someone whether it be andrew, phys, whoever, actually decides on one set or another, 2. the decided table of warns to mute is introduced as news on the form as a new rule for all players to note and 3. Moderators actually use it.
If we do implement this, I'd like to see it like so: 1 warn : 1 minute 2 warns : 15 minutes 3 warns : 3 hours 4 warns : 6 hours 5 warns : 24h ban
Much better off kicking them, if you intend to punish them for so short. One minute isn't really "time to reflect on your actions" given that it's well, one minute - an awfully short amount of time for a full-on punishment.
I don't think any punishment is necessary for the first warning, that's the whole point of a warning. The first warning a user gets in many circumstances will be a legitimate goof up and there's no need to hassle someone's day over one goof up. The people this mute would target and punish will push it past that don't worry about that. You know they can't help themselves, that's the whole point of this, to teach some people some self-control and punish the people who know darn well better. One minute mute some builder who forgot they were on a g-rated server and they might feel that the server is too strict when the fact is it isn't strict enough. Let the first one go.
