Minecraft Name: tom13king Suggestion: We have server and user run pawnbrokers. Basically, if you are in need of money you sell some items to the shop owner. You then agree on a time in which to pay it back (perhaps with interest). If the customer pays the money back within the alloted time, he gets his items back. If he doesn't, the items belong to the owner of the shop who sells them off for a higher price. Reason: It's to do with money and they don't already exist. Any Other Information: None. Link To This Plugin: Does not exist as a plugin as far as I know.
I would say this works as a player run system. That being said, I don't know how exactly the players would plan/run this. I don't think this should be a server run system. We already can sell items to the server which essentially makes free money in the economy. Just like with your system we can exchange the money for the items. The only difference is that it might be a little more effort currently to get the items back.
Player A gives his melon sword to Player B for 500,000. Player B will give back the melon sword if Player A pays back say 10% interest. So Player B will give the melon sword back only once Player A gives him 550,000.
You have pointed out there that this has a severe flaw of pawnbrokers being easily used to scam people. As this is not a plugin everything is manual, therefore scams are very easy.
Tom look at the auction system, look at the trade system, plot selling, all that is manual. Yes there is some scamming, but do you know what happens to the scammers? They get banned. They can appeal for a unban but if they do they have to either refund the player they scammed or follow through on the deal. I see no issue with this being a manual system.
What exactly should the server do? Have andrew and the gameadmins sit with mcdonalds hats behind a counter taking your items in exchange for money? Now to be serious, that would not be good for the economy and player marker for two reasons. 1) New money would be printed if it was server-ran with a higher chance of the economy being inflated, prices going down once more. Plus, what would andrew or the server do with a melon-sword? take it out of the economy? why? I'd rather see it go to a player. I will -1 this, as I think player-ran pawnbroker shops are better, as nothing gets in/out of the economy.
