    Minecraft Name: pauldersgate

Suggestion: Make it illegal to make a straight drop 23+ blocks manually

Reason: 23 block drops are fatal in minecraft, unless feather falling or protection armor is worn. In the mining world I personally have fallen into several straight drops made by players (1x1x23+) presumably made to get to lower levels for mining. But, later on if someone were to fall into such a hole, they would fall to their death and lose any valuables. People might say "so what it's part of minecraft" and that you should be careful to avoid these holes but when using something like an eff V shovel to level up excavation, or more importantly using en eff VII pick, often people move too quickly to react to these holes, and fall losing their valuable tool. I realize such a rule would be difficult to enforce, but it might deter the digging of such holes and some of the holes would be discovered and dealt with.

Though the circumstance is certainly unfortunate, it is really up to you to watch out for what is going on around you. That being said, if someone is actively creating traps around you to kill you, and you can prove this, you could file a complaint for attempted player killing.

As much as I would like to see this enforced, it is your responsibility to watch you step. I would suggest either getting a pair of feather falling diamond boots or the Fly+ donation feature.

After falling and losing ~20k+ worth of items multiple times, I can say with certainty that 1x1 holes down to bedrock are upsetting. However as long as you have some (legal) mini-map mod or use F3 always like myself, you can retrieved everything but your EXP orbs (if you had more than 5 levels). To combat this I make sure to dig down close to spawn and then dig out a few hundred blocks, thus preventing any possibility of hitting a 1x1 hole. Also doing /wild water and digging a hole underwater is another option.

Its a part of the game. And you should be able to avoid the holes if you want to.
