Lets keep this conversation on track. I would personally approve of the return of the Funny rating. There is no reason to remove rating after rating until we finally are down to just 'agree'.

 

The point of trolls is simple, they want to anger people. The reason that the Funny rating was removed was because people became angry when they recieved it. That rating was then removed with the intention to stop it, however it did not. If we really want to stop people from being enraged when they recieve a "troll" rating; all we have to do is ignore it. The mindset shouldn't be "Oh, I recieved a creative rating. This person is trying to troll me". The mindset should be, "I've recieved a creative rating, I guess I am just a creative person". The same goes for the funny rating, ignoring it is the only way to avoid it. No one will continue to rate everyone's post with "troll" ratings if they see that nobody is caring about it. The solution is simple, return the Funny rating and stop caring if your post is rated with it.

 

I disagree. People should not ignore the reality of it. (And not everyone has the same mindset you do on things like bullying/trolling/harassment.)

As well, Funny holds far more negative meanings than Creative. How I see it, Funny can relate directly to bullying, because a lot of bullying (and harassment) includes something being "funny" to the suspect/one doing the bad things. However, Creative is not that way. It is not often where something is "creative" in bullying or harassment, which is why it has not gotten the same type of uproar.

More things can easily be truly creative, whereas far fewer things can truly be funny (universally).

As well, adding back Funny will just allow people to have two ratings for trolling, because they have now deemed Creative as a way to troll, too.

Honestly, either taking away everything except Like, Agree, and Informative or leaving it how it is, are the best options. Adding Funny back will increase trolling and upset users, and removing Creative will just create a chain of new troll ratings.

 

This is quite true in many ways, but any school counselor will agree that many bullies do it simply for attention. If no attention is giving to them, they will usually stop. This is a similar case with many trolls, while not all of them will do it for attention, many do. I've seen many instances where I wanted to rate something as "Funny" or "Creative", because it is just that. In the ECC meme thread people have to rate funny posts as "Winner" or give it a "Like". It is true that less things are truly funny, but are the effects done any different? If a user knows that the rating is meant to troll, they will feel the same if they are rated as "Useful", "Creative", or "Funny". I understand that funny relates to harassment more closely, but we shouldn't let those people with negative intentions effect everyone.

 

If we are not suppose to "feed" into trolls/give attention to bullies, why would we add back their number-one choice for trolling? Many trolls abuse something new to get something old back, or to continue getting attention from threads like these. That is why I suggest not changing anything, so that they do not get what they want (despite what the good people would like).

 

This makes a lot of sense, I agree that the creative rating should not be taken away. I see that we have conflicting viewpoints on the best way to reduce the amount of trolls. I personally feel that ignoring their affects can make them stop, however I understand your stance. My intention wasn't to add the Funny rating because of the abuse of the Creative rating, but to add it as a sign that their effects are minimal.
