Minecraft Name: idkhowtoplay Suggestion: Create a command to show the "server time" to be used for reliable timestamps. Reason: Currently the current method to obtain a screenshot is this: You can find the source for this here on the wiki. This method "works"however can be altered/doctored by the player posting the screenshot, simply by changing their computer date and time settings. Though this might not be overly exploited or in most cases won't affect it much, it still is an issue. If things like text-file chat logs aren't accepted because they can be easily modified then timestamps shouldn't either. Timestamps are even easier since you can modify the time and date settings of your computer while in game and the game will access that when noting date and time in screenshot file. Here is a quick image showing the date being noted as today the 20th, then another in the next line below it being two weeks ago, the 6th. The only way to combat a false time stamp claim would be to have one of your own or if possible by checking chat logs (if they note date/time). I believe implementing a feature to allow a command that gives a "time standard" from one source rather than different computers would make timestamps more reliable when using screenshots for evidence. If possible, it should be shown in the Minecraft Scoreboard, like McMMo. That way, it won't disappear in chat, and will always be on screen. Also, would it be in the user's timezone, server timezone, or GMT?
I have seen that moderators have access to some sort of a time stamp next to their chat. Is this the server time you are talking about?
Er I'm actually not sure what you're referring to... I don't have any such thing (that I know about, at least). It may be something client related though.
Well, I didn't know that you could change the computer time to change the time in-game, so thanks for that . But, I'm assuming what you're saying is that timestamps are taking the server time, coded into the server? Correct?
I don't believe that's possible since this is a function that the client uses, not server. I want it so you can type a command into chat to see a "standard time" so that way there is no chance of players modifying time stamps. I think that adding actual time codes in chat would be too intrusive/bulky while a command would be fairly easy. I know there have been issues with commands like this in the past, like /bal top, etc. but hopefully something like this would be extremely light-weight.
So, let's say I'm gathering evidence incase I'm scammed. I would type '/standard time', then take the screenshot?
Yeah basically. One potential issue I thought of was if you agreed to a loan for example, and the person loaning money took a screenshot and decided to make it look like it was agreed to, a year ago. Imagine the late fees attributed to this? Even if the other person took a screenshot, if it didn't have time stamp, then the person with the loan would be abused in this situation. This of course is pretty extreme but still a risk with allowing modifiable time stamps as evidence.
