While I agree with the reasoning behind this, trolls are going to troll. Get rid of "Creative" and they'll use "Useful", et al.

I think we just ought to put up with it; short of removing forum ratings all together, I don't think we can eliminate "rating trolling".

 

I agree with you. I was just typing this and then I saw there was a new message.

 

We'll just move on to another rating. There is no point in asking for it to be removed. Funny was removed because people cried about it, now you want creative removed since that's the closest to it. There will always be one to fall back to. Suck it up, it's only a rating.

 

You know, it's not always used as "trolling". It's used as funny, if it offends you, maybe you should think about what you're going to post before you do it.

No but really, its a RATING. I don't see why you can't just deal with it.

Considering people seemingly troll rate us often, we are aware. There really is only two options here. 1) We suck it up. We deal with the problem internally. If their goal really is to troll then its going to bother them that you don't seem to care. Or 2) We can remove the ratings entirely from those sections. (Assuming sectional rating is possible).

If you give them even a single rating they will find a way to use it in a troll fashion. Yes, trolling is illegal but I'm sure the people who are doing this frequently either don't feel they are trolling or could provide a perfectly good reason for why they rated a thread a certain way. This is sadly a much harder case to prove of trolling considering it only involves a single button with no need for an explanation.

Anywho, my basic opinion is that we go with Option 1. There is no reason to remove anymore ratings and if the goal is to troll then ignore them and their purpose will not be reached. Its just like any other internet bully. Generally, no reaction = no happiness for the person who was expecting a reaction.

 

And I repeat, in my opinion removing any of those ratings will just result in the others being used sarcastically/trolly. We lost the funny rating. Now we are losing the creative rating? Which one do you think will go next, informative, or useful? Dropping a rating is a slippery slope and we started down that slope many months ago. Lets not continue down that path before it is too late. I like our rating system. I'd like to keep it. If I could, I would want Funny back. But we all know where that would end up going and that one hurt more feelings than the sarcastic 'creative' rating usage.

I don't think removing sectional ratings for this concern works. The next simple thing someone is going to do is to reply with "Creative".

If you find you are bothered by rating alerts, is it possible to shut off rating alerts, or can this be done somehow? Global, or per thread/post, like how you can watch threads?

 

If you are getting upset about someone clicking a button on the internet, then I think you have bigger problems that should be looked into.
