    Minecraft Name:
    CrazySwagMaster1 (TheMaster)

    Suggestion:
    Short Answer:
A command allowing players of some credential to see number of bans a player has previously had, along with reasons.

    Long Answer:
Someone mayor or higher (or make it a donation feature if the server needs money) would be able to type /reputation [playername]. The chat box would then display something like this.
    ----v----
    [playername] Reputation.
Banned XX/XX/XXXX Reason: Grief in city.
    Banned XX/XX/XXXX Reason: Trolling.
    Inactive XX/XX/XXXX until XX/XX/XXXX
    ----v----
    Reason:
The forums have become such a mess, making it nearly impossible to navigate.
    • JohnDoe could by search for [ban appeal] that is by MaryAnderson, however, JohnDoe would also find ban appeals that have Mary tagged, or ones that Mary has commented on.
    • JohnDoe could search for [complaint] that have MaryAnderson in it, but again, MaryAnderson could simply be a witness to some grief that a player caused.
    • JohnDoe could try searching the grief reports/ban appeals/complaints hours on end, and still be missing that MaryAnderson was a 4 time griefer and a 2 time scammer.
    • Even if MaryAnderson was banned 2 days ago for massive grief; she would likely have had to send her appeal directly to andrew, how does anyone find this if no topic was ever made?
    • We all (mods, andrew, and players) need a better way to do this.
/Reputation would supply an extremely fast, in-game method to those hours of mind-numbing labor to simply sell a 15*15 plot.

    Any Other Information
This would be a massive feature, requiring a lot of time and effort from several staff members. That should be obvious to anybody that reads this suggestion. My only question, will it be worth it in the long run? Mod selection would be significantly easier to sort through, and people that do need something similar to this desperately would benefit significantly.
After the feature got itself going, I would imagine it would work on it's own, adding a player's ban automatically to their reputation, requiring no extra work to the staff member issuing the ban.

Town/Nation owners are having more and more of an issue with griefers.
Tool renters are having issues with scammers more and more everyday.
Donation sellers, the players that keep the server alive, are having a harder and harder time finding people they can trust.
Farmers have an issue when their farms don't get replanted after a selfish troll hits it hard.
People scam, people cheat, and people lie. It just happens.
We've all been affected by those people. Because of that; we all need this feature.

    Link To This Plugin:
This would be something nobody else, to my knowledge, has ever attempted.

The only way to make this work well, time-wise, would be to automatically add the information to the list that the command outputs. However, this would not work well. Staff often "re-ban" users to update ban reasons, change bans to tempbans, etc. Therefore, all of those bans would be logged as well...and it would be a highly inaccurate list of the actual amount of times someone has been banned.

As well, that same reason would make manual list updates far too much of a hassle for Staff. They have enough trouble communicating those changed bans with each other as it is - trying to keep track of that and suddenly an additional list (so as to prevent multiple list updates) would be impossible.

Even though I understand the reasoning for this suggestion, I cannot see it working. I know others - and myself - would enjoy a fast, simple way to check felony history... But I do not see a huge issue with doing all that forum searching. Like real life, there are public records available, but you do have to spend time to access them and thoroughly see all the reasons and context behind those felonies.

@MoofinK I already mentioned all the issues you did, your post was not necessary. But to re-counter the issues I already addressed...
    1. I would be more than happy to help enter times a player was banned.
    2. ECC could do it as a "here on out" thing, where everyone has a clean slate up to this point.
    3. An alternative to #2 would be to only enter the last 3 months into it, giving everyone an extremely good idea.
    4. The issue with the changing of bans could easily be switched by simply having mods be able to change players reputation as well of the ban at the same time.
    5. An example of #4 would be /unban JoyceKim removereputation (/unban JoyceKim rr would be easier). Or leave it normal to keep it on the reputation to have the command behave as a normal unban, leaving the ban on the player's reputation.

You have both proven great points, and I believe this is a great idea, but I have suggested something similar to this before (Not saying yours will get dismissed) and I found there were many negatives.

A forum search is very fast and effective. Search up [ban appeal], pop in their name, and your done! You may have to spend 5 minutes at most, but a successful transaction should outweigh that. As OnSceneReporter has said in my previous suggestion regarding this subject ,"If you find that this forum research is not enough for you, then you may not want to actually do a transaction."

Also, I believe there would be many possibilities of misleading bugs in this plugin. Also, the dev's would have to spend lots of time on it. Because of all if these negatives compared to the positives show by you, CrazySwagMaster1, the practicality of this is very low.

I hope that I Didn't offend you in any way,
    -Miner

@miner1975 I didn't realize you suggested anything similar to this before. My issue with searching for [ban appeal] has previously been stated and I believe if you were trying to state negatives it should be something new that hasn't been mentioned in this thread already.

My reasons aren't anything new. The time involved to create/maintain this would not be worth the results. Heck, getting an update on MCTOP once a week is like pulling hen's teeth. And that is a lot simplier than what is being suggested here. If you want to search for yourself, it isn't "hours" of searching, it is minutes. This was already hashed out in previous threads.

Well, this is an interesting concept, however not something I completely agree with doing for multiple reasons.

    1) There is a reason we do not give out ban reasons, which is privacy. When they appeal it can be public on the forums.
    2) In my opinion, a skill all EcoCityCrafters should have is the ability to look through the forum. It does not take hours. It can take me a max of 5 minutes to find the ban reasons of a user who was banned 10+ times. Looking through my own posts, which are 7,000+ takes me only 10-15 minutes.
    3) The maintenance of this and the possible problems are insanely high. Although the users do not see it, sometimes a user can be banned multiple times at once. For instance, an advertiser may be banned by 3 staff at once who all are just doing their jobs and removing them asap. The 3 separate bans may be for the same thing, but it may glitch with /reputation.
    4) There are ban reasons that are not something the player base should see. No, I cannot go into the reason behind that nor will I.

All of this considered, the only system I would agree to is a system for the staff to easily look up ban history. Even with that, we would need a high ranking staff member to go through and check the ban lists repetitively to ensure that they are correct/not doubled/etc.

Therefore all in all -1 to it being a publicly used system as it would not be truly 100% reliable and would have too much maintenance.
+1 to the staff having a system so long as it is clearly watched by specific staff.

What would you say if the command simply stated the amount of times the user has been banned? Not showing reasons, but allowing you to get a general idea, while still allowing you to look to the forums for more details. @Revanrose6

The issue would still cause confusion if a user was banned multiple times because staff were trying to, for example, ban an advertiser. It could be incredibly unreliable that way.

Lets say a User who was only banned for one thing but the /ban command was issued on them 5 times. When you do /reputation it would say 'User1 has been banned 5 times.'

At the same time lets say there is 1 user who was banned for 4 different things all in one ban reason. Said user when you do /reputation would say 'User2 has been banned 1 time'

The two would look incredibly different to the player base. Who would you trust out of the two just looking at the #?

When in reality User1 was banned 5 times for advertising at the same moment.

Meanwhile User2 was banned 1 time for 'Griefing/Trolling/Abuse of a Donation Feature/Attempting to Kill Someone'

In my opinion the system has too many flaws and too much maintenance by the staff team for something you can easily find on the forums.

Already proposed a method that would work to fix that....

I must say, I'm growing old of people that repost things others have already said. No offense is intended, but come on... I hope you can see how this would be frustrating?

You must realize that not every solution you propose is actually a possibility on ECC. Don't assume your solutions are perfect and don't be rude towards people who bring up similar points as others. You're not helping your suggestion.

Yet, this is not a perfect solution. 1) The Unban command is tied to a specific already existent plugin and this would not work well with it. Now assuming your intention is to then create a new command for this, it would still impact staff jobs quite a bit. Why? Because if this is affecting that big of an issue then we cannot allow the blue mods to be able to edit the 'reputation'. In fact, we would likely be unable to allow even the SuperMods to affect that. It means that if a GA is not on, then they will need to fix it later. This means the reputation would be 'tarnished' until it is fixed. Further this is easily abusable.

Just because we trust the staff does not mean there isn't a chance of someone going rogue. We must always consider the possible abuses of a new staff command. Lets say a staff member really likes a certain person, they could remove all the 'bans' from that person making their reputation seem spotless, which is why this would likely be GA+. The same could be said if someone really didn't like a person. They could make it so the 'additional bans' that were suppose to be removed were instead left there.

If this command was going to be used as a supposedly reliable source of information with that much danger to it, then I would not feel comfortable encouraging players to use it. I would feel much more comfortable having them use the ban appeals/complaints section of the forums where there is evidence/discussion/information regarding this.

Therefore, even with the proposed solution I feel I must still disagree.

I was not trying to be rude, as I stated in my origional thread. But I would appricate my threads being atleast semi-organized and full or origional ideas, if there is someone who posted the same idea as you then I think that the "agree" button should be used instead of reposting the same concept. I'm very sorry to all that found my threads as 'rude' or anything of the sort, it was not how they were intended to come across.

also, @Revanrose6 has made some extremely good points regarding staff corruption, changing my mind about the whole idea. If the thread could now be locked I would greatly appreciate it.
