Minecraft Name: ajp79 Suggestion: Provide a suitable reward system for players who successfully provide valid evidence of hacking on ECC. Similar to the reward system for reporting exploits, etc.. Obviously it would center around proper video evidence submitted to the staff team or a dedicated team familar with hacked clients, however it could also reward users for speaking up if or when they hear or see something involved with hacking who may not for whatever reason. The evidence could be video, screen shots, or even simply reporting something odd to the staff team. In theory the idea would be to have a conversation set up with certain users/staff added (Hacking Team) who can collaberate and review video and/or validate submitted evidence with a unanimous decision to ban the accused player if determined hacking is involved. These users would primarily be made up of staff ranks, but may also include other players who have experience with the server and hacking/exploits. Reason: First.. we know that hacking continues to become more and more prevalent with newer additions to ECC gameplay and ultimately destroys fairplay. With only a few members of staff available to accurate determine true hacking it remains probably the most unreported and/or abused rule violation on the server. In many cases it goes unpunished because of fear that it could be something else, when in some cases it is clearly hacking. Second... Providing an avenue that can be more anonymous without flooding the complaints section with constant false hackusations often resulting in players reputations being damaged due to constant trolling, flaming, and just plain stupidity. Any Other Information: Basically the idea of hacking accusations becoming more discrete and solely between the hacker and staff to determine punishment. The community would not see the actual accusations or evidence. Appeals would still follow the current policies, thus the community would still be aware of offenders. Ultimately it could create an enviroment where the community now becomes more involved in preventing hacking on the server and should deter players from doing it due to a higher risk of getting caught and in the end may signifigantly reduce it altogether. Several players already record SG matches frequently already and many more will likely follow with a monetary incentive. This could also spread to other aspects of PVP throughout the server (Nether, End, etc.) Which would help to prevent hacking in those areas as well. Granted this would require more work in one aspect, but elliminate it in another. Instead of all the hacking complaints on the forum and the annoyance involved with moderating them, there will now be a more organized and simplified approach. Players that abuse/troll the system would be punished and/or prevented from submitting further evidence. This was just an idea I came up with sitting at my pc bored. Kinda a rough version that probably needs to be tweaked and tossed around a bit. Please add any additional suggestions in the thread. Link To This Plugin/Is this a custom addition?: N/A
Ehh, I could see this system being a potential disaster. Like you stated, the number of staffers that deal with hacking complaints are quite low, and when we're incentivizing catching hackers, people could overwhelm our team, sending in tips in hopes for cash whenever they get any spotty gameplay whatsoever. Though I do like the idea, like you said, needs some work... I'll say I'm neutral for now.
While I get the idea that providing incentives for doing good work.. I fear people are going to, quite literally, spam the complaint section with hacking complaints in the hope for a quick buck. It might increase the amount of hackers caught, but I doubt it will be anything more than negligible. It would simply overwhelm staff, slowing down the process and eventually not being successful.
I pretty much agree with what Whamm and Kuke posted above. In order to make as much money as possible, it would be efficient to record absolutely anything and send every single video of every single SG match to the staff team; now imagine a dozen players (or more) doing this. I really doubt it would be possible to spend the same time investigating all videos if the vast majority of them are false reports. Offering rewards would raise the amount of reports, but probably lower the general effectiveness.
Valid points. Complaint section would be null. The reporting would be done through private pms involving specific individuals. Granted there may be a lot of false reports. How is that any different then the current process? The idea would be to have a team of qualified individuals who would review the evidence. It would require more then a few obviously. Maybe a need for more staff is required. The problem is that due to the nature of the server as an economy server there continues to be a lack of enforcement around hacking in general. Either because its hard to police effectively and/or requires people who know how to validate it. Both are undoubtably areas of needed improvement. When was the last time a mod actually caught and banned a player for xray while in game? Not because they admitted it or were stupid enough to post a screen while it was activated. 9/10 hacking complaints are denied routinely because of lack of evidence. I know for a fact 2-3 i saw myself that were clear as day were denied. I know some of you saw it too. Some of us have been around long enough to have seen a time where hackers were found and banned on the spot. Why? Because there were people who actually took it seriously. Heck kuke was one of the best at it. Not to mention it was an automatic permaban (so to speak).. Look.. I get this is not an easy subject to deal with and yes there are flaws, but at some point something has to change. Having a great concept of a PvP driven END world means nothing to me if I have to contend with a bunch of morans hacking because they think no one cares and will likely just get a slap on the wrist.
I think the better solution is to have a part of staff be willing to record potential hackers throughout matches and upload those videos for specific staffmembers to look over. As well as a system where anyone can just type '/report <username> hacking' and if a few people do that then a staffmember will get a notification whenever that user is pvping so they can record, or something like that at least. The whole process of filing complaints is inherently slow, painful and doesn't actually produce much results.
All this, I like the idea but it would be a salt disaster. I like the idea of giving a larger portion of staff the ability to invisibly view and record matches but not the /report command as it would actually be a list of "Any User Who Ever Beat Me At SG".
-1. In theory this is a good incentive for people to catch hackers and get them off the server. In reality this would just start a witch hunt.
A more private way to file these complaints is something that @ClarinetPhoenix and I have discussed and will likely happen in the near future. However, a financial reward for 'reporting' hackers is just something that will not only flood inboxes with accusations that are baseless with people hoping for a buck, but simply just cause witch hunts for people who hack. I don't want a community where people are financially motivated to assume the worst in everyone else. I'm not saying changes aren't needed, I think we all know that'd fall in between either ignorant or an outright lie, I just don't see these as being changes that will solve the issue.
