Minecraft Name: Dccciz Suggestion: Implement a rule change for Namechanges. Reason: The guidelines for namechanges currently allow users to abuse the rule system. If players aren't allowed to say portions of names because they are spam, how should people be allowed to use this in every message? Any Other Information: I'm not an expert rule maker, maybe someone else could edit it to make it seem more official? Users with usernames who currently violate this rule will not receive a warning. I have no issue with long names personally, I just find it annoying when people go 'Hello _VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV, LMFAOXXDDDDDDDDDD and TURTXXXXXXXXXXXX'. Although I suppose that'll keep happening until these names are banned, so +1
Or how about having nicknames with 5 or more repetitive characters will result in removal of the feature, perhaps after a warning or two?
inb4 LMMMMAAAOOOXDDD When you have explicit rules like that, they come with loopholes, and people will purposely troll by using loopholes to make names like that. I can only see more trolling coming out of this, not less. And if you're suggesting to add a username that bans "spammy names" without stating what constitutes as one, that's a completely arbitrary punishment, that's inconsistent and is not based off of any logic or reason. Bad idea as well. So, we have two options, if we still want to punish people with spammy usernames: A. Implement a pointless rule that further adds to the complexity and length of the rules - Which is, by the way, filled with loopholes that will allow players to troll even more. B. Add a rule that's completely enforces completely arbitrary and inconsistent punishments. Or we can do neither. You see, when you give players attention for their spammy names, more and more players will switch to spammy names to troll. Trolling is built on reactions from other players - Remove the reactions and just ignore the trolling, and you should be fine. If we're really concerned about spammy names, the best thing to do would be just ignore them and move on. Without any reaction, the trolls will soon realize "No one cares" and will stop using spammy usernames. -1
Yeah, that's effective too - I'd much rather continue our current policy of perma nicking, and have normal players just ignore the name changes. That way we will ensure there's no spam, while curtailing the incentives for trolls to switch to spammy names.
