    Minecraft Name:Gernen

Suggestion:Change the rules that allows mayors to kick players out of their town for no reason. Make it so if said player has broken no rules they are entitled for a refund and each town should decide if it has/hasn't that as a rule and the player has to agree to it.

Reason:The user has paid for this plot of land and technically owns it. If he broke none of the town's rules, why should he loose his plot and money for no reason? This is like scamming, taking back what you sold.

I never actually see Mayors removing people for no reason. The close I see to removing for "no reason" is remodeling the town.

Which is exactly the case. It is like they are taking something that belongs to you.
Inactivity is breaking the town rules, which should result into removal.

I agree that this should be in place. However, I do not always expect mayors to give full refunds. I feel that there should be a partial refund plan, and it must be in the town rules on a trade sign somewhere. For me, I offer 50% payback if for some reason a user has to be removed. However, if they did break the rules and clearly did, then there is no refund at all.

As long as the eviction is done properly, the player doesn't lose a ton. Yes it sucks, but very very few people get removed for no reason. The only time that happens is if a town needs to be remodeled. The fact of the matter is, the mayor owns that property. He owns that land. He is choosing to lease that land out to other players. When he wants the lease up, he has the right to say "Lease up in 3 days". Yes, by my explanation that means no one truly owns a plot. That is a leased chunk of space and the mayor can remove you so long as it wasn't a scam and he gave you warning. By extension, the mayor also doesn't technically 'own' the land because andrew is leasing that out and he can remove you if he wants to as well... Just saying.

People can remove anyone from their town for no reason, as long they are given 3 days to remove their stuff. I am looking to get those people at least a refund.

I'm +-0 on this suggestion (ha...ha). I do not agree that someone can remove anyone for no [good] reason, but as others have said, it does not happen too often. As well, I see it as a lease/temporary residence unless a contract is made that says otherwise.

And, speaking of contracts, that would be the best bet. If someone does not want to fear of being removed for "no reason," they should make a contract outlining the sale of a plot/building and how the town rules do or do not change it. It is not hard to make a contract stating something along the lines of, "Under no circumstances whatsoever, someone/any of TOWNNAME's Mayors/Co-Mayors cannot remove, evict, or otherwise take away my town priveledges and plot/building, or only if there is a full/other amount in refund."

I believe encouraging contracts would be better than changing the rule(s). However, the rule(s) would probably need slightly adjusted to mention contracts.

As I mentioned above, it could be in the town rules and vary from town to town. Town rules are like contracts, as both define the terms of an agreement and both result in punishment in case of failure to follow them. But your idea is good aswell.

Town rules are good and somewhat like contracts, but they aren't as solid/moderated. Contracts are at least a part of the "system" and Staff have to handle them, and the contract posts cannot be edited or remade like signs or unlocked town threads. That's mainly why I brought up contracts, because town rules aren't necessarily "trustworthy," unfortunately. :/

Here is usually the only time and place where this becomes a problem, when towns are sold / bought. When the town is sold the new owner has the complete right to get the people out of the town because he's not getting anything out of having all these people there. Like Revan said there's also remodeling. I just recomend purchasing a plot in a well established town where you will know the person won't ever sell the town or evict you. thehockeykids2 has great plots and has kept his town ever since I was there... as a builder over 2 or so years ago.

In seriousness though, I think it should be allowed because the mayor may choose to restart the town or have plans, but i think if there's enough evidence to see a user is doing this for profit (like selling 20 plots to builders and in the next day kick them out) they should be punished

I completely agree in theory with this suggestion, however it will be difficult to implement well. The vast majority of plot sales (at least in my experience in my town) are to builders to haven't found the forums yet, so contracts are unlikely to be possible - at least without any significant time spent completing the transaction.

Of course, in an ideal world all plot sales would have a contract/formal agreement, however in reality it is often a very informal exercise. The rule isn't perfect at the moment, but I think it is better than the mess that would follow if every little dispute turned into 'he/she said this, agreed to this, didn't agree to the rules' etc.

I have rather mixed feelings on this suggestion.

Making a mayor pay a 50% refund would be crazy. If I was low on money and needed people out of my town, I literally have to pay to get people off my land.
It doesn't really happen that much that mayors remove people without reason. True, it still does happen sometimes, but rarely.

The issue really boils down to trust. Do you trust this mayor not to give an eviction notice 2 days after you get on your plot?
A mayor who specifically scams people out of plots will be noticed by the community, and soon people will blast hate in his direction and warn people not to buy plots from em.

I agree, it's a real bummer if someone kicks you off your plot for whatever reason. But giving refunds really is impossible to keep track of. I could say that I sold you the 30x30 for 1k, and proceed to hand you $500 and tell you leave. When I really sold it to you for 8k.

So while I dislike the current rule, it would really not be possible to enforce otherwise, and really, it rarely happens to anyone.

I've never had a plot owner in my town ask for proof of purchase. I've never taken screenshots of any of my plot sales either.

This may be too ambitious, but is it possible to have a plugin that would allow a town mayor to display set town rules and then give the purchaser to /agree /disagree etc.? It would be just be in a chat, so I can't imagine its too hard to script. Although I do have little to no experience of mine craft plugins so I really don't know!

I'll try and elaborate using an example :p

    • The town mayor could set rules, perhaps through '/setrule 1 [townname] No Griefing' and '/setrule 2 [townname] Must be active'
    • The mayor could then type something to the effect of '/tell [name] rules [townname], which would then appear in the chat box of the purchaser.
    • The purchaser could then /agree or /disagree, which could then be logged by the server for purposes of future disputes.
As I said, I have no experience of plugins and don't know if this would be possible. Perhaps someone could say if this is something which could be possible?
My thinking behind this was that it would give some sense of formality to transactions, whilst remaining in-game and not requiring users to find a thread on the forum etc.
